JOB SUMMARY
Coordinates administrative activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), including protocol acceptance, administrative pre-review, assignment, distribution, meeting logistics, institutional and sponsor correspondence, and to facilitate the conduct and recordkeeping for semi-annual inspections. Maintains the administrative and business process of the IACUC in support of research protocols including review, interpretation and coordination of procedural activities within the overall scope of relevant federal, state, and local regulations for research involving animals in research and teaching across the Wake Forest University School of Medicine/Atrium Wake Forest Baptist/Atrium Health Enterprise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Daily interaction with faculty and research staff regarding IACUC activities.
Maintain new protocols, amendments to existing protocols, continuing review, protocol termination requests, and expedited reviews. Pre-review protocols for the appropriate administrative elements required to meet federal guidelines.
Maintain complex records of protocols and actions taken through the course of their existence so that they are complete and available for audit by Federal regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies.
Provide support for regular IACUC meetings. Prepare detailed meeting minutes and associated memoranda to faculty documenting recommendations and actions of the IACUC.
Prepare memoranda in response to receipt of correspondence. Provide administrative support to Director as needed and any other duties necessary to support the IACUC.
Oversee Maintenance of Animal Research Protocol Records and Database
Other tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or two years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
Experience with computerized databases and word processing
Ability to handle multiple projects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Clean, comfortable, well-lit, office environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires ability to be mobile within facilities.
Requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, crawling, squatting, and kneeling.
Requires lifting less than 50 lbs. occasionally.
Requires the ability to sense vibrations and smells.
Requires sensitivity to heat and cold.
