IBM iSeries Programmer

Long-term contract opportunity for an experience iSeries programmer. This role is heavily remote, however will be onsite 1 day per month in Minneapolis, MN (and onsite first week). 

• Client prefers candidates that are in the MN area however, candidates anywhere in the U.S. are welcome, provided they can travel onsite as needed.

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced IBM iSeries Programmer to join development team supporting a large, enterprise application environment. This role is approximately two-thirds development and one-third maintenance, with opportunities to work on integrations, enhancements, and ongoing support of mission-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform.
• Develop primarily using RPG IV (free-format/ILE) and CL, with some RPG III, Java, and PHP.
• Build and maintain integrations between enterprise applications and central systems.
• Develop and support FTP-based integrations, APIs, XML interfaces, and data exchanges.
• Perform application maintenance, troubleshooting, debugging, and production support.
• Participate in change management and deployment processes for active environments.
• Support reconciliation and data exchange processes occurring on monthly, biweekly, and event-driven schedules.
• Collaborate with technical and business teams to understand requirements and deliver reliable solutions.

Technical Environment

• IBM i / OS: v7R4, with an upgrade to v7R4.5 tentatively planned for October
• Languages: RPG IV (free-format/ILE), CL, RPG III, Java, PHP
• Integration: FTP, APIs, XML
• Tools/Technologies: Townsend FTP Manager, Syslog, ARCAD
• Development: Primarily modern RPG IV/free-format; limited new development in RPG III
• Large enterprise application codebase with extensive integrations

What We're Looking For

• Strong hands-on experience developing on IBM iSeries/AS400.
• Solid RPG IV/free-format and ILE programming experience.
• Experience with CL programming.
• Ability to work within a large, complex application environment.
• Experience developing and supporting system integrations and data interfaces.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable balancing new development with application maintenance.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel onsite approximately once per month, plus an initial onsite period of potentially one week.
