    Job Description
    Certification: Texas Educational Aide Certification must be obtained within one year for hire, as applicable under TEA requirements and local policy.

    Position Summary
    The Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with disabilities in an online resource classroom setting. This role works under the supervision of a certified special education teacher to provide academic, behavioral, and organizational support. The paraprofessional ensures students can access the curriculum and make progress toward individualized education program (IEP) goals within a virtual learning environment.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Assist in delivering live (synchronous) and asynchronous instruction to individuals and small groups
    • Reinforce academic content using teacher-provided materials and strategies
    • Provide targeted support in reading, math, writing, and executive functioning skills
    • Monitor student engagement and provide real-time support through chat, breakout rooms, or one-on-one sessions
    • Support implementation of IEP accommodations and modifications in the virtual environment
    • Assist in collecting and documenting student progress toward IEP goals
    • Support student use of assistive technology and digital tools
    • Promote positive student engagement and reinforce behavioral expectations
    • Monitor attendance, participation, and assignment completion
    • Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and families as directed
    • Prepare and organize digital instructional materials and resources
    • Track support sessions, interventions, and communications for compliance purposes

    Collaboration & Compliance
    • Collaborate with special education teachers and general education staff to support student success
    • Participate in team meetings, professional learning, and training sessions
    • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to IDEA, FERPA, and district policies
    • Support implementation of behavior intervention plans as assigned
    • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of services provided

    Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or recognized equivalent required. Candidate must also meet at least one of the following: 48 semester hours of college coursework, an associate degree or higher, or successful completion of an approved local academic assessment demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics.

    Qualifications

    Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Associate degree or higher preferred

    Experience
    • Experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in an educational setting
    • Experience supporting students with disabilities preferred
    • Experience in virtual or blended learning environments is a plus

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
    • Ability to support students in a virtual learning environment
    • Proficiency with digital platforms
    • Organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
    • Commitment to equity, confidentiality, and professionalism

    Work Environment

    Fully virtual position requiring reliable internet and a dedicated workspace. Daily interaction with students through online platforms is required.
