About the role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a highly motivated transportation engineer working directly with the Illinois Department of Transportation in the IDOT office located in Schaumburg, IL. This position will primarily consist of design leadership and development of transportation projects for IDOT. Experience coordinating, evaluating and reviewing consultant activities in the preparation of contract plans, specifications, and cost estimates for IDOT transportation improvements is required.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Report to IDOT District 1 office and provide work similar to an IDOT employee.
  • Monitors consultants progress to ensure contract documents are completed within the requirements of executed engineering agreements and project deadlines.
  • Confirm consultant prepared contract documents are completed in accordance with federal and state guidelines and approved design reports.
  • Communicate with consultants, the district bureaus, the Central Office, local government units, federal agencies and private parties.
  • Lead, motivate and provide support to other staff reporting to IDOT.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and training opportunities for staff as directed by IDOT.

Education/License Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer

Must-haves, what you will bring

  • 15+ years of relevant work experience; 8+ years of relevant project management work experience.
  • MicroStation/Geopak capabilities with an understanding of IDOT work flow
  • Experience with roadway and infrastructure design using IDOT design criteria
  • Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities
  • Strong written, verbal, computer, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated requiring minimal oversight
  • Work within a Team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals
  • Valid driver's license

Compensation - The pay range for this role is $155,000 to $187,200. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
