Unit Name: Labor and Delivery/Birthing Center

Shift: Night shift 1900-0700, 36hours per week

Job Description:

Position Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience preferred.
  • Cesarean section circulator experience preferred.
  • Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) recovery experience preferred.
  • OB Emergency Department (OBED) experience preferred but not required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
  • Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required.
  • STABLE certification preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide safe, evidence-based care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Weekend/ Call Requirements: up to 2 weekends per 6 weeks (this may vary), Holidays as needed, no call requirements

Unit Overview

Our Labor & Delivery unit cares for approximately 400 patients each month and supports an average of 120 deliveries per month. The department includes:

  • 7 Labor and Delivery rooms
  • 2 dedicated Operating Rooms for obstetrical surgical procedures
  • 6-bed Obstetric Emergency Department (OBED)
  • Level II-E Nursery onsite

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and post-operative obstetric patients.
  • Care for high-risk and high-acuity maternal patients at 32 weeks gestation and above.
  • Function as a cesarean section circulator and provide post-anesthesia recovery care as appropriate.
  • Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in maternal and fetal status utilizing critical thinking and evidence-based practice.
  • Interpret fetal heart rate patterns and intervene appropriately to promote maternal and fetal well-being.
  • Collaborate with physicians, certified nurse midwives, anesthesia providers, neonatal teams, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Support emergency obstetrical interventions and participate in rapid response situations.
  • Provide patient and family education while promoting a positive birth experience.
  • Adhere to professional, regulatory, and organizational standards of nursing practice.
