At Deaconess Illinois, our Team Leaders play a critical role in shaping the patient experience and supporting nursing excellence. We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) who is passionate about leading teams, mentoring staff, and delivering exceptional patient-centered care.

As a Team Leader RN, you will partner closely with the Nurse Manager to support daily operations, guide nursing staff, promote quality outcomes, and foster a collaborative culture where both patients and caregivers thrive.

What Youll Do

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care

  • Demonstrate clinical expertise while providing and overseeing high-quality patient care

  • Serve as a role model for nursing excellence and professional practice

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care

  • Promote patient safety and ensure adherence to infection prevention and quality standards

  • Support evidence-based practices and positive patient outcomes

Nursing Process & Care Coordination

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and identify care needs

  • Assist in developing and evaluating individualized patient care plans

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in accordance with organizational standards

  • Support safe medication administration and compliance with clinical protocols

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Assist with orientation, onboarding, and ongoing development of nursing staff

  • Participate in employee coaching, evaluations, and professional growth planning

  • Support staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation decisions

  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment

  • Serve as a resource and mentor for clinical staff

Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Support patient safety initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and regulatory readiness

  • Promote compliance with organizational policies and accreditation standards

  • Assist with implementation of safety goals and best practices

  • Monitor and contribute to patient satisfaction and quality outcome measures

Operational & Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Assist with staffing management and productivity goals

  • Support budget initiatives and resource management efforts

  • Complete payroll and other administrative functions as assigned

  • Promote efficient use of department resources while maintaining quality care

Qualifications

Required

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing

  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

  • Computer proficiency and experience with electronic medical records

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • Minimum two years of clinical nursing experience

  • Minimum one year of experience within a nursing specialty

  • Previous leadership, charge nurse, preceptor, or team leader experience

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire (based on unit requirements)

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force and frequently exert 25-50 pounds of force. Responsibilities may include prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and other physical activities associated with direct patient care.

Work Environment

  • On-site position

  • Occasional travel may be required

  • Driving is not an essential function of this role
