Job Summary

The imaging lead is an extension of the imaging manager. Completing duties related to schedules, payroll, coordination of staff and management of patient flow and the department. Assists manager in coaching and directing staff. Evaluates equipment for future purchases. Manages downtime of equipment and coordinated PMs as deemed necessary by the manager. The imaging lead is a leadership role yet functions as a working technologist in their specific modality. Depending on the need, demands and staffing of the department this could be a ratio of 60-90% technologist to 40-10% office work on any given day.

Responsibilities

  • Assist manager in any capacity. Assist with payroll, WFM for scheduling and vacations. Assist with day to day operations and patient flow.
  • Perform the duties of a regular staff technologist.
  • Evaluate new equipment and software for the CT or RT modality.
  • Interact with physicians, customers, and ensure that our program meets their needs.
  • Supervise staff to ensure the optimum in imaging procedures as indicated by repeat analysis image quality, audits and/or patient follow-up, proper procedures, proper techniques, and correct inaccuracies.
  • Identify peak flow times and census fluctuations within the department and support or redirect staff to cover specific crisis, to minimize patient wait time in queue and in procedure rooms.
  • Support divisional standardization for all areas.
  • Perform validation of staff competencies.
  • Provide input to the performance management process for staff.
  • Act as educational/clinical and technical resource for the CT or RT modality.
  • Identify needs for new procedures and technology within the CT or RT modality.
  • Integrate the technology education program into the clinical environment of the Medical Imaging Department by assuring active participation of the technical staff as clinical instructors.
  • Make recommendations for preparation of budget to assure cost effective operations, monitored by supervisor.
  • Assure the quality of the imaging services and patient care through compliance with industry norm, applicable regulatory, institutional, departmental and section standards.
  • Cooperatively interact with medical staff and other departments to assure provision of quality of service, enhance customer relations and engage in crisis management and planner.
  • Assure optimum patient care and assess patient needs related to comfort, hygiene, and range of emotion and support.
  • Interact with health care professionals and support personnel, internal and external to Radiology to promote high quality, cost effective, efficient imaging/therapeutic services and patient care.
  • Ensure the quality of patient care, imaging/therapeutic services and education by complying with institutional policies and procedures and regulatory guidelines and by participation in departmental quality assurance.
  • Demonstrate regard for dignity, respect and safety of all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital personnel as defined in the philosophy of the organization.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the hospital is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Participate in meeting goals and objectives of the department. Promote and contribute positively to the team work of the department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem solving with co-workers.
  • Participate in planning and implementing change and maintaining and improving productivity through attendance and participation in staff meeting, committees, task forces, projects, and discussions.
  • Act as a resource for the dept manager and assist the manager when applicable.
  • Provide direct oversight to the department when assigned by the department manager.
  • Take an active role in process improvement.
  • Become acquainted with and have an understanding of the productivity standards to ensure staffing levels on his/her shift are efficient and are flexed according to volume whenever possible.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education

  • Formalized Training (Required) Experience: 2 Years CT Technologist or RT Technologist. Must meet internal ladder level 3 criteria.
