Position Overview:


Integrates activities and resources of the Diagnostic Imaging Department, comprising of Radiology, Ultrasound, Computerized Tomography, MRI, Mammography, PET, and office support. Assists the department manager for providing overall leadership and management of Radiology/Imaging Department. Responsibility for promoting excellent patient care, cost effective use of material and human resources, and professional growth and job satisfaction for staff. Maintains a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics. Responsible for daily operations of picture archiving and communications system (PACS) system. Coordinates PACS services with other departments, physicians, and their office staff. Communicate system changes and upgrades to the users. Direct supervision of the technologist. Ongoing performance improvement monitoring and reporting, staff in-service and competency testing. Assigns staff and workload requirements respecting changing priorities in daily operations. Interacts and communicates with physician support staff and other health care professional.

Job Description :


Responsible for the supervision of a satisfying work environment for staff.

• Interviews and hires with manager technologists and other staff according to human resources policies.

• Assures that daily procedures are distributed among technologists based on technical ability and skill level.

• Assist the manager with completion of all reports, records, and special projects according to established time frames.

• Conducts staff meetings in the absences of the director.

• Assists with customer satisfaction goals

• Assigns staff and workload requirements respecting changing priorities in daily operations.


Responsible for the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

• Assesses the number and level of technologist needed to provide quality radiology/imaging studies daily.

• Ensures that technologist review request/chart for correctness of type of procedure ordered in relation to patient's treatment and previous exam and that technologist use the hand off procedure.

• Evaluates new equipment and products to promote and ensure high quality cost effective radiology/imaging procedures.

• Reviews on an annual basis, or as changes occur, state and federal regulations to ensure radiology/imaging standards are met.

• Ensures that recommendations of the radiation safety officer are carried out and all personnel practice as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) concepts 100% of the time.

• Plans ways to solve problems, meet needs and make improvements in the quality of patient care as documented by at least (1) proposal per year.

• Assures that radiology/imaging standards are current by reviewing, revising and developing standards at least annually.

• Works collaboratively with department manager and radiologist(s) to initiate and direct planned change designed to improve services as documented by hospital administrator.

• Directs department performance improvement activities based on radiology/imaging information quality control and hospital safety standards as documented by department quarterly process improvement (PI) report.

• Addresses patient concerns responding in a professional manner.


Responsibility for the competency and development of staff.

• Assist the manager in with planning and assures the timely and complete orientation of new employees according to department standards as demonstrated by completion of orientation check list within 90 days of hire.

• Collaborates with other managers, directors and the radiologist(s) to identify the educational needs of staff at least annually.

• Assists staff to develop goals and objectives for individual professional growth during annual performance evaluation.

• Promotes communication about management activities and goals, new projects, equipment, procedures and planned change as documented by monthly department meeting minutes.

• Provides relevant, current and accessible educational resource materials for radiology/imaging staff.

• Implements at least (2) department programs, projects, and/or changes annually which are designed to promote growth and development of the radiology/imaging staff.

• Disseminates and assures compliance with department and institution policies, procedures and regulations.


EDUCATION:


HS Diploma: High School diploma or general education degree (GED)


CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:


CRT-Certified Radiologic Technologist


OR ARRT - Radiography - American Register of Radiologic Technologists


OR NMT-Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist


OR ARDMS-American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer


OR CT-Computed Tomography


OR RHM-Radiology Mammography


OR ARMRIT-Certified MRI Technologist


OR RCS-Registered Cardiac Sonographer


BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider


TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:


5 years of recent relevant experience.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:


Advanced knowledge of all aspects of Radiology Care.


Knowledge of quality personnel management, communication skills and customer service.


Monitors departmental operations to assure compliance with governmental regulations and meet standards established by accrediting agencies.


Basic computer/data entry/statistical evaluation skills.


Communication and problem-solving skills are desired.


Act as a resource for staff technologist.
