Oberlin's Impact Investment fellows are student representatives on the college's Impact Investment Advisory Group (IIAG). Composed of students, faculty, and administrators, the IIAG was created in 2022 to serve an advisory role to the college's Investment Committee. Since then, the group has conducted research projects in impact investment related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. The Impact Investment fellows will conduct research related to impact investment trends in the endowment management space, connect the trends with Oberlin's strategies and policies, and make novel recommendations to the Board of Trustees' Investment Committee. The fellows will also support the IIAG's efforts to bridge the communication barrier between the impact initiatives of the endowment and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Generate project ideas based on overlap between research interests and the IIAG's goals
  • Conduct breakthrough research on impact investment issues in the endowment management space and present research to the Investment Committee twice in the school year
  • Lead outreach to peer colleges and universities and organize Impact Investment Symposium
  • Meet weekly with IIAG Coordinator for updates and constructive feedback on project progress
  • Engage with campus partners to communicate IIAG's initiatives with relevant stakeholders
  • Advance previous research on the Impact Investment Framework
  • Advance Oberlin's engagement and collaboration with peer institutions through its membership in the Intentional Endowments Network (IEN)
  • Respect the need for confidentiality for some elements of the projects and be prepared to sign a non-disclosure form

Qualifications

  • Passionate about social impact, climate change, and/or endowment management
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated reliability and responsibility
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfortable with outreach and presenting information to groups and individuals
  • Enrolled student for the 2026-2027 academic year, and availability on campus during both semesters
  • Flexible and willing to receive and provide ongoing feedback. This Fellowship is constantly evolving and open to new ideas
  • Sophomore status and above
  • Strong sense of integrity
