Job Summary

The role is responsible for ensuring compliant and efficient import and export operations across international borders. This role oversees trade compliance activities, maintains accurate documentation and trade data, supports duty and tax accuracy, and mitigates regulatory risk. The Specialist collaborates cross‑functionally with internal teams, customers, vendors, and customs brokers to support seamless global trade execution and a high level of customer service.

Essential Responsibilities

• Ensure all import and export activities comply with applicable U.S. and international trade regulations (e.g., CBP, EAR, OFAC, CBSA), internal procedures, SOPs, and work instructions
• Prepare, review, and maintain import and export documentation, including commercial invoices, declarations, certificates of origin, tariff classifications, country of origin determinations, ECCN, valuation, and currency conversions
• Maintain accurate trade data in ERP and compliance systems; ensure alignment between system data, customs filings, physical shipments, and financial records
• Perform and support HTS, ECCN, and COO determinations; conduct denied party screening and export control due diligence
• Review and validate USMCA/FTA eligibility, including supplier certifications and originating criteria; resolve discrepancies with vendors and internal stakeholders
• Manage entry amendments and corrections through customs brokers for U.S. and Canada; analyze root causes of errors and implement corrective and preventive actions
• Serve as a subject matter expert, providing regulatory guidance to internal teams, customers, and vendors; identify transactions requiring special handling or escalation
• Support and mentor junior team members and participate in compliance projects, audits, and regulatory research

Business Support & Continuous Improvement

• Generate reports and management summaries highlighting compliance performance, risks, trends, and metrics
• Monitor regulatory changes and assess operational impact; communicate requirements and action plans to stakeholders
• Identify opportunities to improve compliance controls, efficiency, and risk mitigation
• Support existing export accounts and new business by ensuring compliant transaction setup and execution
• Assist with onboarding new vendors and items by validating required compliance data

Cross‑Functional & Customer Support

• Act as a liaison between Sales, Procurement, Customer Service, and external partners to facilitate compliant international shipments
• Coordinate shipments requiring special handling or expedited processing
• Proactively resolve delays or compliance risks with internal teams and service providers
• Calculate accurate landed costs, including duties, taxes, freight, and related charges
• Support Procurement with Incoterms® guidance based on risk, cost, and compliance considerations

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong expertise in import/export compliance, including EAR, HTS, ECCN, USMCA/FTA, denied party screening, and customs regulations
• Proven analytical, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional communication skills
• Strong customer focus and ability to manage complex compliance scenarios

Experience

• 4-7 years of experience in import/export or trade compliance, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Education

• Bachelor's degree in a business‑related field highly preferred

Computer Skills

• Advanced Microsoft Office skills; experience with ERP and compliance systems preferred
