    Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital is looking for an Improvement Advisor to lead meaningful change initiatives that enhance patient care, improve outcomes, and increase operational efficiency.
    Summary:

    • The Improvement Advisor actively participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the quality, patient safety and operational performance improvement program. The Improvement Advisor serves as the local change agent for Unit Based Clinical Leadership/Practice Based Clinical Leadership teams, departments or other as assigned. The Improvement Advisor provides teams with the most current PI methods and tools, including project management support. This works includes, but is not limited to, facilitation of PI projects and workshops, management and surveillance of data for PI opportunities, messaging trends in the data to departments and staff, education of the staff in the latest PI methods and responding to serious safety events. The Improvement Advisor is accountable for facilitating improvement in the areas of patient satisfaction, clinical quality and patient safety, operations and continuous survey readiness. Working under the close supervision of UBCL/PBCL teams or departments, the Improvement Advisor has these key areas of responsibility: • Facilitate improvement in patient satisfaction, patient safety, clinical quality and operations. •  Provide teams with various PI tools, methods and approaches.• Seek opportunities for continuous survey readiness. •  Facilitate projects and workshops to support teams. •  Effective as a change-agent to local UBCL/PBCL teams.

    Responsibilities:

    • Planning & Facilitation Helps teams plan and stay organized Sets pace for team projects Keeps teams on track in PI cycle and project timelines Actively assists with implementing PI strategies for the entity Collaborates with leadership & frontlines to effectively prioritize problem solving
    • Problem Solving Keeps focus on processes, not people Promptly investigates serious safety events and quality concerns Provides PI support for process redesign after a serious event Applies PI methods and tools appropriately Provides PI support for continuous survey readiness as needed
    • Coaching, Mentoring & Teaching Is a PI teacher for front line staff and team members Asks insightful questions Challenges teams to improve their PI work Is clear & concise, makes learning points understood Gives useful feedback
    • Influence & Relationships Strong ability to network Can build and support a team Has a positive internal customer focus Can persuade effectively Engages stakeholders Is a voice people listen to Is viewed as a PI resource by other team members
    • Data Management Helps teams access useful data Helps teams understand trends, the meaning of data, and how it compares to benchmarks Brings tools to teams that are useful for data analysis and dissemination Is effective in disseminating information Maintains data integrity & validity

    Credentials:

      Education or Equivalent Experience:

      • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
      • 1+ years' experience in planning, implementation, and evaluation of a performance improvement plan, preferably in a health care field
      • Clinical experience is preferred, though candidates with non-clinical degrees, such as MBA, MHA, MPH, MS will be considered if there is commensurate work experience in healthcare performance improvement.
      • Master of Arts or Science preferred
      • Six Sigma Green Belt/Lean Certificate/IHI Improvement Advisor or equivalent experience.
      • Knowledge and experience in quality improvement models, especially Lean/Six Sigma, the IHI model for Improvement, or Human Factors Engineering.
      • Knowledge of National Standards and outcomes for quality, safety, and healthcare - such as CMS Core Measures and Value Based Purchasing, AHRQ PSIs, Leapfrog, US News and World Report rankings.
      • Experience with Root Cause Analysis
