In-Home Private Middle School Tutor

Thrive Education Partners is seeking an exceptional homeschool tutor to provide individualized academic and executive-functioning support for a middle school student in Lewisville, North Carolina. We are looking for a warm, engaging, and highly skilled educator who can become a consistent part of the student’s educational team and build a strong understanding of how he learns best.

The student has diagnoses of ADHD, autism, and dyslexia and benefits from individualized instruction, clear structure, and thoughtful executive-functioning support. He is working primarily at the 7th–8th grade level, with writing skills reaching into the 9th-grade level. His family is deeply invested in his homeschool journey and is looking for an educator who can meet him where he is while continuing to build his skills, confidence, and independence.

Great individualized instruction starts with understanding the student: what he already knows, where meaningful gaps exist, how his learning profile affects his academic work, and which approaches help him make meaningful progress. The right educator will use that understanding to determine instructional priorities, provide targeted support across content areas, and adjust instruction as the student progresses.

The ideal candidate is a strong, versatile educator with experience supporting neurodivergent learners who can move comfortably between academic instruction and executive-functioning support. This person should be able to do more than help complete assignments—they should be able to identify what the student needs, design purposeful instruction around those needs, and help him develop the systems, strategies, and independence necessary to become an increasingly capable learner.

What You'll Do

• Provide individualized homeschool instruction and academic support for a middle school student across core content areas.
• Develop a strong understanding of the student’s academic strengths, skill gaps, learning profile, and current instructional needs.
• Provide targeted instruction primarily at the 7th–8th grade level, with the ability to support more advanced skills when appropriate, particularly in writing.
• Support a student with ADHD, autism, and dyslexia using evidence-based, developmentally appropriate instructional strategies.
• Strengthen underlying academic skills when needed rather than focusing exclusively on completing assignments or keeping pace with coursework.
• Provide intentional executive-functioning support, including organization, planning, prioritization, task initiation, time management, study strategies, and follow-through.
• Help the student develop systems and routines that allow him to take increasing ownership of his learning.
• Break larger assignments, projects, and academic expectations into clear, manageable steps.
• Teach effective study habits and learning strategies that the student can increasingly use independently.
• Design and adapt instruction based on the student’s demonstrated needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all curriculum or approach.
• Monitor progress and recognize when an instructional strategy is not producing the expected results, adjusting accordingly.
• Build a strong, trusting relationship with the student and create sessions that are engaging, encouraging, structured, and appropriately challenging.
• Communicate thoughtfully and professionally with the family and Thrive’s educational team about progress, priorities, and areas of continued focus.

For this student, academic instruction and executive-functioning development should work together. We’re looking for an educator who can provide excellent academic support while also helping him build the systems, strategies, habits, and confidence that will allow him to become increasingly independent in his learning.

Requirements

• Has significant experience teaching or tutoring middle school students, ideally in individualized, homeschool, private education, special education, or intervention settings.
• Has meaningful experience supporting students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or other learning differences and understands how these profiles can affect learning.
• Is a strong, versatile educator who is comfortable providing instruction and support across multiple academic content areas.
• Can identify a student’s specific strengths, skill gaps, and instructional needs and use that information to establish clear priorities.
• Understands instructional design and curriculum and can select, adapt, or create appropriate learning experiences rather than relying solely on a predetermined curriculum or textbook.
• Can provide explicit, structured executive-functioning support, including planning, organization, prioritization, task initiation, time management, and study skills.
• Can help a student develop systems, routines, and strategies that promote greater independence and ownership over time.
• Is highly responsive and able to recognize when an instructional approach is not working and adjust based on the student’s needs and progress.
• Brings warmth, patience, creativity, and strong relationship-building skills while maintaining clear expectations and appropriate academic rigor.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Special Education, English, Mathematics, Psychology, or a related field.
• Current or previous teaching license preferred.
• Experience as a special education teacher, learning specialist, middle school teacher, homeschool educator, interventionist, or private tutor.
• Training or significant experience supporting students with dyslexia and structured literacy needs.
• Strong knowledge of middle school curriculum and instructional practices across core academic subjects.
• Experience providing explicit executive-functioning instruction or coaching.
• Experience developing individualized instructional plans based on student performance, observation, assessment information, and demonstrated needs.
• Familiarity with evidence-based approaches for supporting neurodivergent students is strongly preferred.

Compensation

• $60–$100/hour, commensurate with experience, credentials, and depth of expertise

Logistics

• Location: Lewisville, NC; in-person
• Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays
• Hours: Approximately 2 hours per session / 4 hours per week
• Timing: Flexible; exact session times can be established with the family
• Commitment: Consistent, ongoing support as part of the student’s homeschool educational team
• Start Date: Family is prepared to move forward with the right educator
