Focus: Portfolio Oversight (Construction & Manufacturing)

We are seeking a highly analytical and process-oriented In-House CPA to oversee the financial integrity of our diverse portfolio, consisting of multiple companies primarily within the construction and manufacturing sectors.

The ideal candidate will be the "anchor" for our financial reporting, ensuring that month-end and year-end closes are executed with surgical precision across all entities. You will bridge the gap between complex operational accounting and high-level tax strategy, providing the leadership needed to consolidate results and prepare for external filings.

Key Responsibilities

1. Month-End & Year-End Close Management

  • Workflow Oversight: Standardize and manage the closing calendar for 30 portfolio companies, ensuring timely delivery of financial statements.
  • Revenue Recognition: Ensure compliance with ASC 606, particularly regarding Percentage of Completion (POC) for construction projects and point-of-sale for manufacturing.
  • Work-in-Progress (WIP) Analysis: Review WIP reports to ensure over/under billings are accurately reflected and project margins are consistent with estimates.
  • Intercompany Eliminations: Manage complex intercompany transactions, allocations, and consolidations across the portfolio.

2. Tax Coordination & Compliance

  • Tax Prep Management: Organize and oversee the preparation of tax workpapers for federal and state returns.
  • Nexus & Sales Tax: Monitor multi-state nexus issues common in manufacturing distribution and construction site operations.
  • R&D Credits: Identify and document potential Research and Development tax credits within manufacturing processes.

3. Operational Controller-ship

  • Fixed Asset Management: Oversee depreciation schedules for heavy machinery, fleet vehicles, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Inventory Oversight: Audit manufacturing inventory valuation methods (FIFO/LIFO/Average Cost) and manage year-end physical counts.
  • Audit Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax firms.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification: Active CPA license is mandatory.
  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
    • Public Accounting experience (Audit or Tax) is highly preferred.
    • Specific experience in Construction or Manufacturing is required.
  • Technical Skills: * Mastery of GAAP and specialized industry standards (e.g., Job Costing).
    • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Sage, Made to Manage, Fish Bowel, Odoo).
    • Advanced Excel skills (Macros, Power Pivot, and complex modeling).
  • Soft Skills: The ability to manage multiple stakeholders and "speak the language" of both shop-floor managers and executive leadership.

Why This Role?

This is not a "bean counter" position. You will have a bird's-eye view of a multitude of different operations, providing the financial backbone that allows these companies to scale. You will transition from technical accounting to a strategic partner role as you optimize the closing cycles and tax positions of the entire portfolio.
