Basic Function
NOTE: This is a part-time position, approximately 5-16 hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours through other Inclusive Recreation activities. This position does not include benefits.
Lead day trips for adult individuals with disabilities on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the community. Support social programs on Friday evenings. Serve as a positive role model, ensure participant safety, assist with activities, and provide a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive a city-accessible shuttle to and from trip destinations.
- Ensure participant safety throughout trips and programs.
- Lead group activities with enthusiasm, keeping participants engaged.
- Monitor participant behavior and provide appropriate support.
- Administer basic first aid and respond to emergencies when needed.
- Maintain communication with the program coordinator.
- Assist participants with tasks such as purchasing food, navigating locations, or using mobility aids like wheelchairs.
- Facilitate prearranged activities, projects, or games.
- Interact with participants, families, and caregivers, addressing questions and concerns.
- Propose ideas for future trips and activities.
- Attend staff training sessions and meetings as required.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before program start time and remain until all participants are picked up.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Qualifications:
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
- Ability to work at least two Fridays and Saturdays per month.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing meaningful recreational experiences.
- Culturally sensitive and inclusive, with an understanding of diverse participant needs.
- Collaborative mindset to work effectively with instructors and trip leaders.
- Interest in recreation and a variety of activities.
- Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures.
- Valid Washington State Drivers License.
- Successful completion of employment reference and background checks.
Environmental Conditions/Physical Effort:
- Requires travel to various locations for trips and activities.
- Physical demands include carrying, bending, stooping, squatting, standing, and walking long distances during shifts.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to push individuals in wheelchairs.
- Ability to adapt and perform effectively under high-stress situations, such as emergencies.
