Thorough knowledge of the Food and Nutrition program. Considerable knowledge of all agency and community programs and services, which could affect the client/applicant. General knowledge of all income maintenance programs. Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of regulations, policies and procedures of varying complexity. Ability to work independently and prioritize work. Ability to instruct and evaluate the work of lower level employees. Ability to train employees in new and existing rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to understand the needs and problems of clients/applicants. Ability to perform caseworker function under and within structured time frames. Good computer skills, data entry and NC FAST knowledge are essential to complete tasks. Ability to work in a team environment, good organizational skills, and communication skills.
Examples of Duties
Training new and experienced Income Maintenance Caseworkers in policies and procedures relevant to the Food and Nutritional Services program. Policies and procedures include; all computer tasks relating to keying applications, approving, denying or withdrawing applications, completing routine case maintenance and terminating assistance; all computer checks in systems such as OLV or OVS, instructions for applying Food Stamp policies according to the manual in taking and processing applications, conducting and processing redeterminations, reacting appropriately to routine changes and all other functions described as responsibilities of the Food and Nutrition worker. Conduct training on appropriate interviewing skills, customer service, policy and NC FAST. Monitor application and recertification pending lists to ensure timeliness is met. Lead learning and processing labs. Fill in for absent caseworkers by completing ongoing casework or application functions as determined necessary by the supervisor. Directing and assigning applications and intake to worker when needed. Provide feedback to the supervisor regarding the skill and competence of staff. May provide training to other units or the public as needed.
Typical Qualifications
Graduation from high school and a minimum of two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or an equivalent combination of training and experience. No work against qualifications.
