Job Title: Independent Living Skills Instructor
Expected Hours: Part-time
Compensation: Starting at $22.00 per hour
Location Current Openings: Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Concord

Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Independent Living Skills Trainer to join our team in supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this role, you will play an essential role in helping individuals achieve greater independence, whether they are living with others or transitioning to independent living. Your expertise will enrich their lives by enhancing their daily living skills and fostering self-confidence and independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support and training in independent living skills, including financial management, shopping, meal preparation, laundry, advocacy, and social engagement.
  • Develop and implement customized training plans that align with each individual’s needs, goals, and abilities.
  • Facilitate skill-building that promotes self-confidence, autonomy, and community integration.
  • Collaborate with each individual’s support network, including families and case managers, to ensure cohesive and holistic care.
  • Create a positive and supportive environment that promotes personal growth, skill development, and self-advocacy.
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date records on individual progress, achievements, and areas for development.
  • Stay informed on current best practices, resources, and tools related to independent living skills training.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development sessions.

Preferred Skills:

  • At least 1 year of experience in working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, preferably in independent living skills training or related fields (training available for dedicated candidates).
  • Knowledge of HUD's Section 8 Housing Program, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and other benefit programs.
  • Experience in creating and delivering training programs or workshops.
  • Knowledge of person-centered planning and individualized support techniques.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and cultural sensitivity principles.

  • Clean driving record and car insurance.
  • Ability to stay focused and complete assigned tasks effectively.
  • Strong team collaboration and ability to follow care plans.
  • Willingness to work with individuals with minor behaviors
  • Passionate about positively impacting lives and embracing challenges.
  • Dedicated to maintaining high standards of care and ethical practices.
  • Compassionate, patient, and committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse communication needs.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of effectively tracking progress and documenting individualized plans.
  • Familiarity with local disability support services, agencies, and community resources is a plus.
