POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Indirect & Logistics Procurement is responsible for the strategic sourcing of Balchem’s global indirect and logistics categories, including CAPEX, MRO, 3PLs, and corporate services. This role leads global sourcing strategy development, category management, cost optimization, risk management, and stakeholder engagement for approximately $120 million in annual spend supporting Balchem operations in the United States and Europe.
The Director will conduct spend analyses to identify key opportunities and develop category strategies, evaluate existing and prospective supply options based on total cost of ownership, and implement a strategic sourcing approach that ensures quality, service, and value.
The Director will build strong cross-functional and business relationships and serve as a key contributor to senior leadership in support of top-line growth and bottom-line performance objectives. This individual will also act as a change agent, driving the development, standardization, and implementation of global procurement processes. The role will introduce strategic sourcing within indirect procurement and own the Company’s logistics strategy. In addition, the Director is responsible for identifying and delivering continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and enable growth through innovation and supply base capacity expansion.
This position includes leadership responsibility for a team of procurement and logistics professionals, with accountability for hiring, developing, retaining, and mentoring talent to build a high-performing global procurement organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Leadership and Category Strategy
- Partner with senior management and functional leaders to identify and prioritize strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management initiatives across business units, functions, and categories, aligning stakeholders and resources to deliver results against established targets.
- Lead the development of annual sourcing strategies for assigned categories, ensuring alignment with internal customer needs and current and future business requirements, including regional execution of global strategies
- Partner with executive leadership to optimize topline and bottom-line value by leveraging spend across categories and business units, implementing long-term category strategies in key spend areas, and managing select suppliers through strategic partnerships.
- Own Balchem’s logistics strategy, including freight and warehousing.
Supplier Management and Value Creation
- Lead supplier negotiations to deliver value, mitigate risk, and support business objectives.
- Drive cost savings and value creation opportunities across the organization.
- Develop and implement new approaches to supplier engagement, including strategic alliances, partnerships, and supplier performance management practices.
Operational Excellence and Performance Management
- Partner with Finance to conduct spend analyses across all indirect and logistics spend, identify key opportunity areas, and develop a strategy for indirect spend management.
- Maintain deep knowledge of the indirect spend supply base, market dynamics, cost drivers, and relevant industry trends.
- Ensure procurement best practices are consistently applied across the team.
- Leverage tools, technologies, and process improvement opportunities to enhance procurement effectiveness.
- Define and monitor key procurement metrics and performance indicators to measure effectiveness.
- Develop and manage a performance-driven roadmap for procurement value creation, including initiatives and capability investments needed to sustain and expand results, such as advanced analytics and process automation.
Stakeholder Partnership and Team Leadership
- Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional partners and business unit stakeholders, serve as a procurement champion across the organization, and challenge the status quo to drive better outcomes.
- Assess team performance against annual objectives and provide coaching, mentoring, and development support to help team members achieve their goals.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience and Industry Background
- 10–15 years of experience in strategic sourcing and procurement.
- Extensive experience in procurement category management, particularly within CAPEX, MRO, and logistics.
- Leadership and Change Management
- 5–10 years of direct people management experience.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage in a team environment, influence effectively, and resolve conflict.
- Proven ability to lead enterprise change management initiatives and solve complex problems.
- Hands-on experience building and managing procurement organizations across multiple divisions and/or regions is preferred.
- Technical, Operational, and Analytical Capabilities
- Excellent negotiation skills and demonstrated success managing major supply agreements.
- Ability to design and implement efficient procure-to-pay and procurement processes.
- Ability to balance strategic vision with tactical execution.
- Demonstrated experience with spend analytics, decision modeling tools, supplier market analysis, and structured supplier selection is preferred.
