Position Summary
The Indirect Materials Planner Specialist controls inventory levels, identifies obsolete inventory, registers, and scraps items for inventory. This role is responsible for reviewing and adjusting stocking levels based on production volumes, usage, and safety stock quantity. Furthermore, this role will periodically report inventory levels and organize the data in our inventory management databases to improve item identification.
Position Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:
- Review inventory for items that must be adjusted to maintain an efficient safety stock level in our warehouse.
- Request and adjust planner parameter levels based on production demands.
- Register new items, identify, and dispose of obsolete items.
- Review the recorder list to ensure the necessary items are properly ordered.
- Periodically report inventory levels and organize data in inventory management databases to improve item identification.
- Ensure accurate reporting of material in the indirect materials warehouse.
- Work effectively with Purchasing and Engineering to ensure the coordination of purchasing activities to acquire inventory in a cost-effective and timely manner.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with management and internal departments regarding inventory shortages or surpluses.
- Ensure 95% material availability for manufacturing and maintenance departments.
- Monitor and accurately report supplier on-time delivery; aggressively communicate and manage through any issues that could impact the manufacturing process or raise concerns as necessary.
- Make necessary adjustments to safety stocks as deemed necessary to facilitate product availability while maintaining the lowest possible inventory.
- Other duties as needed.
Required Skills and Abilities
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, materials, maintenance, production control, purchasing, planning, or related role.
- Experience working with inventory, parts, materials, production needs, ordering processes, or warehouse activity is preferred.
- Ability to learn inventory management systems, planning processes, and database tools.
- Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal departments, including Manufacturing, Maintenance, Purchasing, Engineering, and Management.
- Ability to prioritize work, follow up on open items, and respond to changing production or material needs.
Education/Training/Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
