Individual Student Assistant

We are seeking a caring, patient, and reliable Individual Student Assistant to provide one-on-one support for a child in our childcare program. This position focuses on assisting a student who requires additional support with daily activities, social interactions, and behavioral needs to ensure success in the childcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized support to one student throughout the day in a childcare classroom setting.
• Assist with transitions, routines, and participation in group activities.
• Support sensory needs and implement calming strategies as needed.
• Use verbal de-escalation and proactive approaches to help the student regulate emotions and behavior.
• Encourage independence, social engagement, and skill development in alignment with the student's needs.
• Collaborate with classroom staff, supervisors, and families to support consistency and student growth.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in a childcare, school, or related setting.
• Knowledge of supporting children with disabilities and managing challenging behavior.
• Familiarity with sensory supports and strategies.
• Ability to use verbal de-escalation techniques effectively.
• Flexible, patient, and dependable, with strong communication skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or coursework in child development, education, or special education preferred.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift and carry young children.
• Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods.
• Ability to participate in activities with young children, including bending, stooping, and kneeling.
• Background check and clearance as required by state and local regulations.
