Shape the Flow of Goods with Smart Automation

Step into a role where your electrical savvy and systems thinking turn complex material handling challenges into elegant, reliable solutions. As our Industrial Automation Controls Engineer, you’ll architect, estimate, and deliver unit load conveyor and storage systems—then see them through installation and turnover with confidence.

A Day in the Role

You start by aligning with the VP of Engineering and senior electrical mentors to confirm scope, performance criteria, and budget. You transform system specifications into detailed plans, select the right vendors, and build complete proposals with accurate technical content, schedules, equipment lists, and pricing. Throughout execution, you coordinate Sales Engineers, Project Engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to keep quality high, costs on track, and customers delighted. You maintain meticulous project files, release required documentation for scheduling and procurement, and manage electrical installation subcontractor agreements. You also contribute to concept development, written communications, total electrical pricing, and precise estimates-to-complete. Along the way, you look for cost reductions in engineering, equipment, controls, and installation—while training new hires on procedures, drawing standards, and routine electrical engineering practices.

What Success Looks Like

  • Plan and complete assigned projects that are technically sound and delivered within quoted costs.
  • Prepare complete and accurate quotes and proposals.
  • Foster seamless collaboration across Sales Engineering, Project Engineering, the broader Engineering team, suppliers, and outside subcontractors to meet or exceed targets.
  • Demonstrate strong electrical aptitude and propose innovative solutions to tough problems.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and champion a team-first environment.
  • Provide premier service to internal and external customers at every touchpoint.
  • Deliver the highest quality of work to achieve total customer satisfaction.
  • Continuously streamline internal processes for better efficiency.
  • Support a healthy workplace by following standards and procedures.
  • Help the Engineering team exceed quarterly and annual corporate goals in both revenue and profitability.

Your Core Responsibilities

  • Analyze system specifications; plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed engineering activities for unit load conveyor and storage systems.
  • Select equipment and suppliers that fulfill all technical and commercial requirements.
  • Create or coordinate technical content, schedules, equipment lists, installation scopes, bases of quote, and complete pricing for proposals.
  • Maintain complete, up-to-date project files and records.
  • Issue required forms/documentation to secure scheduling, electrical and controls equipment, electrical installation, spare parts lists, and maintenance manuals.
  • Contribute to concepting, written communications, total electrical pricing, and accurate “estimates to complete.”
  • Provide engineering input and support for proposal development.
  • Implement orders and manage electrical installation subcontractor agreements.
  • Advance your knowledge of material handling technology and controls to keep our company at the industry forefront.
  • Evaluate and recommend cost-reduction opportunities across engineering, equipment, controls, and installation.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new hires on procedures, drawing standards, and routine electrical engineering applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 1+ year of technical systems work, including control system design and a solid knowledge of controls.
  • Hands-on PLC and HMI programming experience.
  • Electrical panel design experience.
  • Ability to design and engineer foundational controls solutions for material handling systems.
  • AutoCAD design experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and the internet.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiencies

  • CAD Software
  • Electrical Installation
  • PLC Programming Experience
  • Field Service Readiness
