Role Snapshot

As an Industrial Automation Field Engineer, you’ll install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain automated equipment and systems at customer sites. You will ensure peak performance in the field, provide hands-on and remote technical support, and collaborate closely with Matrix engineering teams to deliver top-tier service solutions.

A Day in the Life

  • Start with a site check: verify system health, review logs, and plan the day’s tasks.
  • Diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, and control layers—then restore uptime quickly.
  • Execute preventive maintenance on robotic cells and related equipment, including Fanuc robots.
  • Implement upgrades and improvements with project and engineering teammates.
  • Coach operators and maintenance staff on safe operation and care, emphasizing best practices.
  • Capture detailed service notes, parts usage, and findings in the ERP system.
  • Work safely at all times—adhere to company policies and industry standards such as lockout/tagout.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of industrial automation (PLCs, HMIs, motion control).
  • Fluency in reading electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Advanced diagnostic and problem-solving ability.
  • Clear, customer-friendly communication.

  • Working knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
  • Comfort with frequent travel and dynamic site conditions.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field.
  • 5+ years in industrial automation, field service, or equipment maintenance.
  • Fanuc training/certification preferred.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLCs and HMIs preferred.
  • Exposure to Fanuc robotics, motion control, and vision systems is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer locations.
