Industrial Automation Maintenance Technologist

Location: Mukwonago, WI

Compensation: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour (DOE)

Schedule: 3rd Shift | 2-2-3 | 6pm - 6am

Industry: Plastics Manufacturing


Picture your evening shift beginning as the production floor hums to life. You check overnight priorities, walk the injection molding lines, and verify that quality checks are functioning before the first box is sealed. You’re the steady hand that keeps automation reliable—solving problems, improving machines, and enabling the team around you to perform at their best.

What a Typical Night Looks Like

  • Jump into hands-on troubleshooting—diagnose, repair, and return equipment and systems to peak performance, resolving issues end-to-end.
  • Engineer and implement straightforward design tweaks to eliminate recurring machine problems.
  • Dismantle, inspect, and overhaul equipment in alignment with preventive maintenance plans and production timelines.
  • Record maintenance actions, repairs, and associated quality verifications with clear documentation.
  • Collaborate on new equipment design and support commissioning efforts.
  • Coach teammates—train others on job tasks, including outside molders, to elevate capability across shifts.
  • Run daily systems checks to ensure all quality checks are functioning properly.
  • Keep work and storage areas orderly—practice meticulous housekeeping.
  • Invest in your growth—attend seminars and vendor training to stay sharp on current and future automation technologies.
  • Set up and bring new equipment online smoothly.
  • Build sturdy crates when equipment needs to be relocated.
  • Execute conversions on assembly, lining, and closing machines.

What You Bring

  • Growing expertise in electronics, PLCs, pneumatics, and vision systems—built through technical college coursework and supplier seminars.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (as measured by the STM testing).
  • Hands-on machining and fabrication skills, including MIG/TIG welding, and operation of drill press, lathe, milling machine, and surface grinder.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical prints and electrical schematics with confidence.
  • Strong collaboration skills—comfortable working with associates at every level.
  • Completed fork truck training and the ability to operate fork trucks safely.

  • PLC troubleshooting proficiency
  • Experience with 120/208/240/480 VAC systems
  • Motor maintenance, repair, and replacement
  • Industrial automation troubleshooting
