Overview:

Join our team as an Industrial Base Analyst and support the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) by researching industry competitiveness and trade policy issues critical to the defense industrial base. You will gather data from industry and agency stakeholders, develop surveys and Power BI dashboards, and deliver memos, reports, and briefings that equip senior leaders to make informed, strategic decisions.

Work Schedule and Location:


On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm onsite at the Herbert C. Hoover Building in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis and writing using appropriate standards, methodologies, tools, and models.
  • Identify trends, risks, and key findings that inform decision-making, and synthesize complex information into clear, evidence-based insights.
  • Draft written content — background, methodology, findings, and recommendations — and prepare finished reports and briefings for leadership, policymakers, or external audiences.
  • Develop visualizations (charts, tables, infographics, dashboards) that communicate analysis effectively.
  • Support survey design and data collection, including question development, response formats, and databases.
  • Process and analyze public comments and filings (e.g., in FDMS/regulations.gov) and perform quality assurance/quality control on filings and databases.
  • Support customer correspondence, meeting coordination and minutes, SharePoint/knowledge management, and responses to data calls (FOIA, GAO, Congressional).
Qualifications:

Required: 

  • A Master's degree in a related field (such as business, economics, data science, international affairs, foreign policy, or international economics) with at least 2 years of relevant experience; OR a Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • U.S. Citizen; able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability determination.

 

Desired: 

  • Experience with trade, economic, or industrial base analysis (Section 232 / DIB subject matter a plus).
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) and databases (e.g., SharePoint, SQL, MS Access).
  • Experience producing executive-level briefings.
