Join Express Employment Professionals as an Industrial Controls & Instrumentation Technician supporting safe, reliable mining operations. You’ll keep electrical, electronic, and instrumentation assets running at peak performance while adhering to MSHA, federal, and state regulations, as well as company policies.
A day in the life
Conduct safety inspections of your assigned area at least once per shift—and more often when conditions require—aligned with federal mining regulations.
Troubleshoot, service, and repair plant-wide electrical, electronic, and instrumentation systems to minimize downtime.
Use portable test equipment and internal diagnostics to pinpoint faults in instrumentation systems, then isolate and correct issues.
Replace failed components and verify equipment accuracy and reliability.
Perform preventive maintenance and routine checks on controls, instrumentation, recorders, gas analyzers, automatic weight devices, and related gear.
Install new electrical/electronic hardware—control devices, recorders, indicating instruments, SCR drives, and PLCs—during construction, upgrades, and machine modifications.
Maintain orderly, hazard-free work areas to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
Carry out all tasks in full compliance with MSHA, federal and state rules, and company safety standards.
Assemble and maintain a complete personal tool set within 90 days of assignment (tool list provided upon hire).
Operate mobile equipment as needed once properly task trained per MSHA requirements.
What you bring
Dependability and a strong track record of safety and attendance.
Solid electrical aptitude and hands-on experience.
Foundational knowledge of instrumentation—or the drive to learn electrical repairs and instrumentation systems.
Basic computer proficiency with the ability to learn control systems and programming.
Comfort working independently and the ability to both give and receive direction effectively.
Experience that sets you up for success
Minimum 4 years of verified electrician experience in mining or heavy industrial environments.
Proficiency using electrical meters, including megger testing of motors and cables.
Demonstrated skill troubleshooting AC/DC motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and power distribution systems.
Knowledge of Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) systems.
Experience with pressure and flow transmitters, RTDs, and thermocouples.
