Industrial Controls & Instrumentation Technologist
A day in this role
Sunrise or sunset, you’ll keep production humming. After completing training, you’ll transition into a rotating 2-2-3 schedule, alternating days and nights. You start your shift by reviewing maintenance tickets, then move quickly from diagnosing a PLC input fault to swapping a VFD, and finish by commissioning a newly installed flow instrument. Safety is your constant companion, documentation your daily habit, and collaboration with operations and maintenance your rhythm.
Compensation & schedule
- Pay: $38 – $42 per hour, DOE
- Schedule: 2-2-3 rotation (two on, two off, three on), rotating between day and night shifts
What you’ll take on
- Own safety: follow all standards, procedures, and lockout/tagout protocols
- Rapid troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation breakdowns to minimize downtime
- Execute planned work: repairs, preventive maintenance, installations, and commissioning
- Interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and OEM manuals confidently
- Work with urgency and minimal supervision; communicate progress clearly
- Install conduit, cabling, and related equipment to spec
- Maintain and diagnose PLCs, motor starters, relays, solenoid valves, flow instruments, motors, circuits, proximity sensors, thermocouples, electric heaters, and VFDs
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Successful completion of the Work Keys test is required (tests will be administered as needed)
- Preferred: journeyman electrician and journeyman instrumentation technician experience
Physical capability
- Lift up to 50 lbs without accommodation
- Walk stairs (20–30 steps) and climb straight ladders (15–18 feet)
- Push/pull loads on rollers or carts
- Operate effectively both solo and within a team
