Role overview
Join our maintenance team under the guidance of the Shop Supervisor to ensure uptime and safety for sawmill machinery and related heavy equipment. This position focuses on installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance across mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, gas, and electrical systems.
Shift: Swing, Monday to Thursday, 1:30 PM to 12:00 AM. Flexibility available to discuss hours.
Core responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair sawmill machinery and production assets
- Rapidly and safely diagnose mechanical breakdowns and restore operation
- Execute preventative maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime
- Inspect equipment to verify safety compliance and operating efficiency
- Document service activities and parts consumption accurately
- Collaborate with operations to sustain throughput and reliability
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including lockout tagout
Must-have qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- 1 to 3 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic
- Solid knowledge of hydraulics, diesel and gas engines, and electrical wiring
- Ability to independently diagnose and repair mechanical issues
- Capable of frequently lifting and moving 50 lbs
- Personal set of basic tools suitable for the role
- Consistent safety focus and reliable attendance
Preferred background
- Heavy equipment mechanic experience; sawmill or forestry equipment preferred
- Deep familiarity with diesel engines, hydraulic circuits, and electrical systems
- Comfort troubleshooting and repairing equipment with minimal oversight
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus
- Ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments
Physical and environmental conditions
Work occurs in an industrial plant environment with exposure to moving machinery and moderate to high noise. Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and work around outdoor temperatures, weather, wood waste and dust, oils, and lubricants. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stair climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and work in confined or awkward spaces are required. Visual acuity includes close, distance, and depth perception.
