The Industrial Electrician at the sawmill facility is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting the electrical systems and equipment essential to the sawmill operations. This role ensures that all electrical systems function efficiently and safely to minimize downtime and optimize production. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, and PLCs, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Electrical Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems, including lighting, motor controls, power distribution, and equipment wiring.
Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose electrical issues in machinery, conveyors, saws, and other equipment, and make necessary repairs to ensure safe and continuous operation.
PLC & Control Systems: Troubleshoot, repair, and program PLCs and automated control systems.
Installations: Install, test, and calibrate new electrical equipment, machinery, and control panels to ensure they meet operational and safety standards.
Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems and components to reduce downtime and improve equipment lifespan.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all electrical work adheres to local codes, safety standards, and company procedures. Maintain a safe working environment by following all safety protocols and regulations.
Documentation: Keep accurate records of electrical work performed, including inspections, repairs, and replacements.
Collaboration: Work closely with maintenance teams, production teams, and contractors to resolve electrical problems and improve processes
Emergency Response: Respond to electrical emergencies during shifts, ensuring the fastest and safest resolution to prevent delays or damage to the sawmill’s operations.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
Education: Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program in electrical maintenance or equivalent experience.
Licensing: Valid electrician’s license (may vary depending on location).
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an industrial electrician, preferably in a manufacturing, sawmill, or heavy industrial setting.
Skills:
Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing industrial electrical systems, including motor control centers (MCCs), conveyors, and heavy machinery.
Strong knowledge of PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), electrical wiring, and power distribution systems.
Experience with electrical schematics and diagrams.
Familiarity with OSHA and safety regulations related to electrical work.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to solve complex electrical issues.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong attention to detail to ensure materials are processed correctly.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand 100% of scheduled shift. Lifting, pushing, prying and dragging heavy materials.
Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over and occasional climbing of stairs/ladders heights up to 6 or 7 feet.
Abnormal levels of noise due to grinding, chipping, hammering requires hearing protection (ear plus) to be worn at all times.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.
Must be able to work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures.
