    Job Description

    The primary function of the Industrial Engineer is to design, develop, analyze, and improve integrated manufacturing systems and processes. This position is responsible for improving productivity through the effective utilization of people, processes, materials, equipment, and technology.

    The Industrial Engineer will support manufacturing operations by analyzing production processes, developing and maintaining standardized work, conducting time studies, evaluating workstation and production layouts, improving throughput, optimizing material flow, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

    This position will work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and UAW counterparts on production Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics matters. The successful candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

    What You'll Do

    • Implement common Industrial Engineering business practices and processes.
    • Design and improve work operations that meet safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency requirements.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized work and labor standards.
    • Conduct accurate time studies, motion analysis, and work measurement using standard time data.
    • Maintain accurate workstation and production layouts using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
    • Analyze production processes, statistical data, and product specifications to establish appropriate standards and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Evaluate operations sequences, material flow, workstation design, functional requirements, and organizational information to optimize worker functions and responsibilities.
    • Drive continuous improvement efforts through the identification and elimination of waste.
    • Evaluate bottleneck areas and develop solutions to improve throughput, productivity, and process efficiency.
    • Support line balancing and capacity analysis for existing and new production processes.
    • Support change management projects by developing line balance plans and participating in production trials.
    • Reduce total manufacturing cost by improving productivity metrics related to operator work loading, labor utilization, and value-added percentage.
    • Evaluate and recommend methods for improving the utilization of personnel, materials, equipment, utilities, and manufacturing space.
    • Support ergonomic evaluations and recommend improvements to workstation design and operator processes.
    • Review and approve manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
    • Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to understand manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
    • Review production costs and evaluate the impact of product or process design changes.
    • Create and implement quality and process improvement objectives to resolve production issues, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
    • Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives and implementation of the organization's manufacturing operating system.
    • Support the implementation and training of standardized work and Lean Manufacturing principles.
    • Become a coach and teacher of Lean Manufacturing principles to production team members.
    • Drive structured problem-solving efforts to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
    • Communicate with management, production personnel, engineering teams, vendors, and other stakeholders regarding manufacturing processes, procedures, specifications, capabilities, and project status.
    • Develop strong working relationships with Production and related personnel.
    • Work collaboratively as one team with all levels of the organization.

    Industrial Engineering Responsibilities

    The Industrial Engineer will be responsible for applying Industrial Engineering principles to improve manufacturing operations, including:

    • Human work factors and ergonomics
    • Time studies and standard time development

    • Production capacity and throughput analysis
    • Bottleneck identification and resolution
    • Workstation and production layouts
    • Material flow and manufacturing process flow

    • Lean Manufacturing
    • Production coordination and change management
    • Problem solving and root-cause analysis

    Required Skills & Qualifications

    • Ability to develop and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, layouts, and technical documentation.
    • Strong knowledge of Industrial Engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
    • Knowledge of time-study techniques, work measurement, standard time systems, and line balancing.
    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
    • Ability to analyze production data and make data-driven recommendations.
    • Experience with computer-aided drafting software, including AutoCAD.
    • Strong knowledge of manufacturing methods, production processes, material flow, and resource utilization.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with production personnel, management, engineering, and other stakeholders.
    • Ability to work effectively with hourly production employees and UAW representatives.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
    • 8–10 years of relevant Industrial Engineering or manufacturing engineering experience required.
    • Previous experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
    • Experience with time studies, standard work, line balancing, production layouts, throughput improvement, and Lean Manufacturing preferred.
    • Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software required.
    • Experience supporting production changes, manufacturing trials, and continuous improvement initiatives preferred.
