Schedule: Day Shift, Monday–Friday, approximately 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
On-Call: Rotating Friday-to-Friday schedule

Overview:

On-Board Industrial Services is seeking an experienced Industrial HVAC / Chiller Technician to join our HVAC/R Maintenance Group at a chemical manufacturing facility in Circleville, OH.

This is a hands-on HVAC/R position focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and servicing a wide variety of commercial, light-industrial, and process refrigeration equipment throughout the site. The facility contains everything from conventional HVAC systems to large 200+ ton industrial chillers and process-critical refrigeration systems.

We are looking for someone with a strong HVAC/R foundation and excellent mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Candidates do not need to be experts on every type or manufacturer of chiller on site. However, they should have solid hands-on commercial or industrial HVAC/refrigeration experience, exposure to chillers, and the ability to diagnose problems rather than simply replace components.

This is not a general facilities maintenance position. The role is specifically focused on HVAC, refrigeration, chillers, and associated systems.
 

Equipment & Systems:

The site contains a broad range of HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including:

• Large industrial chillers, including systems rated at 200+ tons
• Flooded evaporator refrigeration systems
• Direct expansion (DX) refrigeration systems
• Rooftop HVAC units
• Split systems
• Air Rotation Units (ARUs)
• Liebert cooling systems supporting server/IT rooms
• Walk-in coolers and freezers
• Ice machines
• Cooling towers and associated pumps
• Air and steam systems
• Custom-built and process-critical refrigeration systems
• Refrigeration and HVAC controls

Major chiller/refrigeration manufacturers on site include Frick, GEA, Vilter, and York.
 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive, routine, and corrective maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and chiller equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and control-system problems.
• Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and determine appropriate repairs.
• Perform routine chiller maintenance such as changing oil filters, filter driers, and coalescer elements and completing operational checks.
• Troubleshoot and safely work with 480V three-phase electrical systems and associated controls.
• Use a multimeter and other diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot electrical and HVAC/R system problems.
• Troubleshoot HVAC and refrigeration controls and understand the operation of major system components, vessels, and controls.
• Work with both flooded evaporator and DX refrigeration systems.
• Support maintenance and troubleshooting of large industrial chillers, including equipment rated at 200 tons or greater.
• Perform repairs and component replacement as appropriate and coordinate larger repairs or specialty services when required.
• Support the reliability of process-critical refrigeration equipment to minimize equipment downtime.
• Participate in the site's rotating on-call schedule.

Required Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience in commercial HVAC, industrial HVAC, refrigeration, or chiller maintenance/service.
• Previous experience working with commercial or industrial chillers, including exposure to large-tonnage equipment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience safely troubleshooting 480V, three-phase electrical systems.
• Experience using a multimeter for electrical troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of refrigeration cycles, system components, and controls.
• Ability to diagnose HVAC/R equipment problems and determine appropriate repairs.
• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
• Ability and willingness to provide basic personal hand tools, including a multimeter and standard hand tools up to 1 inch. Specialty tools are provided by the site.
• Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

Preferred Experience:

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

• Frick, GEA, Vilter, or York chillers
• 200+ ton chiller systems
• Flooded evaporator refrigeration systems
• DX refrigeration systems
• Screw, centrifugal, scroll, or reciprocating compressors
• Subzero or ultra-low-temperature refrigeration
• Liebert cooling systems
• Industrial refrigeration controls
• Cooling towers and pumps
• Custom-built refrigeration or chiller systems
• Steam systems
• Welding and brazing
• Refrigerant leak detection, evacuation, and charging
• Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
• A2L certification/training – preferred but not required at hire; candidate will be expected to obtain appropriate training/certification as required.

 

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

This is a hands-on industrial maintenance position. Candidates must be able to:

• Lift and carry approximately 55 pounds.
• Carry tools, equipment, and materials up and down stairs.
• Work on rooftops and safely work at heights.
• Work around industrial machinery and loud equipment.
• Work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures and weather conditions.
• Work in confined spaces when required.
• Wear required respiratory protection and successfully complete site respirator fit-testing requirements.
• Perform work while wearing required site PPE.

 

Safety & PPE:

Safety is a critical part of the position and the site's operating environment.

• Nomex/FR clothing is provided by the site.
• Long sleeves are required.
• Shorts are not permitted.
• Steel-toe leather work boots/shoes with an Electrical Hazard (EH) rating are required.
• Candidates must be able to meet site respirator fit-testing requirements.
• Facial hair must be maintained in a manner that does not interfere with the seal of required respiratory protection.

 

Schedule & On-Call:

The standard schedule is approximately 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Some scheduling flexibility may be available with site approval.

Technicians participate in a rotating Friday-to-Friday on-call schedule, with coverage divided among the team. Call-ins are eligible for a minimum of four hours of overtime pay.
