THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON BID AWARD

The Mid-Level Industrial Hygienist shall support DOI occupational safety and health initiatives by applying established industrial hygiene practices to exposure monitoring and site assessments. Manages Government-owned IH equipment (inventory, calibration, logistics) and provides documentation, reporting, and SMIS EA system support, including transcription-only data entry, in accordance with Government direction.

Responsibilities

  • Apply industrial hygiene principles to support workplace health and safety protection activities
  • Assist in the development and execution of site-specific assessments and exposure monitoring support activities
  • Communicate technical information, findings, and recommendations clearly to field personnel and stakeholders
  • Support implementation of workplace safety and health programs under Government direction
  • Maintain and manage inventory of Government-owned industrial hygiene equipment, supplies, and consumables, including proper storage at the designated facility (Beavercreek, OH)
  • Ensure equipment accountability and readiness (issued/returned, operational status, and availability) to support field deployments
  • Coordinate calibration, repair, and functional checks in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards
  • Develop and maintain a digital inventory system for authorized Government users, enabling real-time status updates, tracking, and reporting
  • Provide logistics support for shipping, receiving, and tracking equipment and sampling supplies, including chain-of-custody documentation
  • Support field operations by ensuring the timely availability and movement of required resources in alignment with the operational schedule
  • Coordinate with the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) to obtain system access and complete required training
  • Utilize Government-furnished systems and equipment in compliance with security and operational requirements
  • Assist users with navigation and data entry in the DOI exposure assessment system (SMIS EA), as requested
  • Perform transcription-only data entry of field-collected sampling data when required; no QA/validation or exposure determinations
  • Maintain inventory and logistics records and prepare monthly activity reports on services performed, equipment status, and sampling support
  • Compile and maintain technical documentation, including calibration records and chain-of-custody forms
  • Support development of the final project summary report in coordination with the Program Manager
  • Manage document preparation, formatting, and submission support with minimal oversight; ensure deliverables are accurate, timely, and compliant with task order requirements
  • Coordinate training logistics and administrative tracking activities
  • Prioritize and coordinate multiple concurrent tasks across field support, equipment management, and reporting activities
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene or a closely related field (e.g., Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Safety Science)
  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience with industrial hygiene, occupational health, or safety- supporting field or program operations
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience supporting exposure monitoring, exposure assessment, or industrial hygiene sampling activities (field and/or program operations) within the last four (4) years
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Office and database/web-based tracking tools to maintain records (e.g., inventories, logs), generate routine reports/metrics, and support document preparation and submission within the last four (4) years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of core industrial hygiene concepts (e.g., exposure pathways, sampling fundamentals, and basic control strategies) sufficient to support workplace health and safety activities in accordance with Government direction
  • Strong equipment and inventory management skills, including organizing, tracking, issuing/returning, and maintaining accountability for Government-owned industrial hygiene equipment and consumables
  • Skilled in coordinating calibration, repair, and functional checks in accordance with manufacturer specifications, applicable standards, and program procedures; ability to maintain accurate calibration and service records
  • Ability to provide logistics coordination for shipping, receiving, and tracking of equipment and sampling supplies, including reconciling quantities, documenting transfers, and supporting field deployment schedules
  • Familiarity with exposure assessment and data management systems (e.g., DOI SMIS EA or similar), including the ability to assist users with navigation and perform accurate transcription-only data entry of field sampling results
  • Strong documentation and report-writing skills, including compiling and maintaining technical records (e.g., chain-of-custody forms, calibration logs) and preparing routine status and monthly activity reports in required formats
  • Possess professional communication and coordination skills to work with authorized Government personnel, field teams, and program leadership; ability to prioritize multiple concurrent tasks and meet deadlines with minimal oversight
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital tracking tools to maintain records, produce routine metrics/status updates, and support document formatting and submission.
