Job Description

VERTEX is seeking an experienced Industrial Hygienist to join our growing Industrial Hygiene & Building Sciences practice in our Braintree, MA office.
 

Core Responsibilities

Work Product Creation, Project Management, Coordination with Team Members

  • Conduct tasks related to abatement project monitoring, pre-renovation/demolition inspections, Indoor Air Quality Assessments (IAQ)/mold assessments, and/or other project assignments as appropriate.
  • Analyze laboratory and engineering data
  • Assist with the preparation of portions of pre-renovation/demolition and clearance reports, IAQ/Mold assessments, and/or other technical assessment reports
  • Maintain consistent communication of project progress with the assigned project manager from start to finish of the project.
  • Maintain assessment and monitoring equipment 
  • Prepare Health and Safety Plans/Job Safety Analyses for sites.
  • Meet utilization and other performance metrics 
  • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy. 
  • Effectively coordinate with other team members as requested or assigned, able to proactively monitor own progress on assigned tasks or projects, and ensure work product produced by self or in collaboration with other assigned team members is consistently high quality
  • Travel as necessary to support client, employee, and leadership needs.
  • Support quality control of service delivery with all individual work product production, maintaining an excellent reputation of quality
  • Collaborate with other team members in a manner that assists with rapid identification and escalation to Supervisor of any client, team member or operational challenges

  • Conduct self and collaborate with others in working toward achievement of defined profit objectives of assigned projects
  • Cooperate in construction of strong cross-functional teams (cooperate with any suggested project assignments outside of original assigned practice area) to achieve success in shared goals, understanding that multiple perspectives and talents build stronger teams and results
  • Complete daily tasks consistent

 

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Requires a minimum of 1 - 2 years of work experience. May require formal occupational training or certification
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field preferred
  • Experience performing IAQ and asbestos project monitoring activities
  • Knowledge of EPA’s NESHAPs and AHERA regulations as well as MassDLS and MassDEP asbestos regulations, and guidance documents.
  • Understand the use of Personal Protective Equipment, including the use of respirators and current fit test and medical surveillance for environmental projects.
  • Ability/willingness for frequent regional travel for fieldwork, up to 90% with some overnight shifts
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English - good technical report writing skills
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities
  • Ability/willingness to undergo comprehensive background check for security clearance on Federal and State projects

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Current MassDLS Asbestos Inspector and/or Asbestos Project Monitor accreditation required
  • National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) 582 Certification required
  • Health and Safety Certification and Medical Monitoring pursuant to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER 40 Hour) and OSHA 10 or 30-hour training 
  • Additional certifications/licenses for other services, including mold, lead-based paint, and other environmental services a plus

The pay range for this role is:
$43,000.00 - $118,000.00 USD annually (Geographical Tier A - Sample Locations: Irvine CA, Middlesex NJ, Tacoma WA, Boston, Alexandria)
