Industrial Hygienist

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct workplace industrial hygiene surveys and exposure assessments.
• Perform personal and area air monitoring for:
• • Dusts
  • Vapors
  • Gases
  • Fumes
  • Mists
  • Fibers
  • Chemical contaminants
• Conduct occupational noise monitoring using sound level meters and dosimeters.
• Perform heat stress evaluations utilizing WBGT monitoring equipment.
• Conduct indoor air quality assessments.
• Perform ventilation evaluations and airflow measurements.
• Assist in ergonomic assessments of work processes and job tasks.
• Calibrate, maintain, and operate industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.
• Collect and document field sampling data following OSHA and NIOSH sampling methodologies.
• Coordinate laboratory analysis of industrial hygiene samples.
• Interpret exposure monitoring results and prepare technical reports.
• Recommend engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment based on assessment findings.
• Assist customers in developing occupational health programs including:
• • Respiratory Protection
  • Hearing Conservation
  • Hazard Communication
  • Heat Illness Prevention
  • Exposure Monitoring Programs
• Participate in industrial hygiene evaluations during refinery turnarounds, maintenance outages, and construction projects.
• Assist with occupational exposure investigations and employee health concerns.
• Maintain accurate sampling records, calibration logs, and project documentation.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, customer requirements, and company policies.
• Provide technical guidance to field personnel regarding occupational health hazards.
• Participate in customer meetings and present assessment findings professionally.
• Support business development by identifying additional industrial hygiene service opportunities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Public Health, or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum of two (2) years of industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental health, or related safety experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910) and Construction (29 CFR 1926) regulations.
• Familiarity with NIOSH sampling methods and ACGIH Threshold Limit Values (TLVs).
• Ability to interpret technical data and prepare professional reports.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass customer-required drug screening, background checks, and site-specific safety training.

Preferred Qualifications

• CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) in progress or eligibility to obtain certification.
• CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or GSP designation.
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification.
• HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification.
• Experience working in refinery, petrochemical, manufacturing, energy, or heavy industrial environments.
• Experience with confined space monitoring and emergency response operations.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in industrial facilities, construction sites, and outdoor environments.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated structures.
• Ability to enter confined spaces when qualified.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and work in varying environmental conditions for extended periods.
• Ability to travel up to 50% as required.

Work Environment

This position routinely works in industrial environments including refineries, petrochemical facilities, manufacturing plants, power generation facilities, marine terminals, and construction projects. Exposure to elevated noise, weather extremes, hazardous materials, and industrial operations is common. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required at all times.
