Industrial Maintenance Technician – Electro‑Mechanical Systems

Location: East Chicago, IN

Compensation: Up to $37.82 per hour, DOE

Employment Type: Direct hire through Integrity Trade Services (ITS)

What your nights look like

At 7:00 p.m., you step onto a production floor that depends on you. Conveyors hum, motors spin, and PLCs monitor every movement. You’ll diagnose a stubborn hydraulic leak, bring an overhead crane back online after inspection, swap a misbehaving IO card, and coach a teammate by phone to clear a control fault—then document it all so the next shift starts strong.

Schedule

  • 3rd shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., four days on, four days off
  • Initial training on 1st shift: generally 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (with occasional sessions extending to 7:00 p.m.)

Key responsibilities

  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machinery, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and control systems using prints, manuals, meters, and hands‑on diagnostics.
  • Identify root causes of failures and implement effective short‑ and long‑term fixes.
  • Repair/replace defective parts using hand and power tools, hoists, cranes, precision measuring instruments, and machine shop equipment.
  • Fabricate components and parts to support repairs and reduce cost.
  • Perform monthly inspections, PMs, troubleshooting, and repairs on overhead cranes.
  • Work with Automax, shark IO cards, and PLC systems to diagnose, repair, and enhance equipment performance.
  • Replace racks, cards, and power supplies to return production lines to service.
  • Operate equipment as needed to isolate issues when an operator is not available.
  • Provide over‑the‑phone technical guidance to accelerate issue resolution.
  • Maintain parts and supplies inventory; monitor stock and place orders as required.
  • Reduce downtime by sharing PM insights and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Document work performed, communicate equipment status, and coordinate with production, supervisors, and maintenance teammates.
  • Keep the work area safe, clean, and organized in accordance with 5S.
  • Support team goals across repairs, maintenance, and process improvements.

What you bring

  • Education/training in Automation, HVAC, Fluid Power, Basic Electricity, Industrial Wiring, Electrical Circuits, PLCs, and Technical Math.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC motors and controls; experience with instrumentation and complex industrial troubleshooting.
  • Background in heavy manufacturing preferred.
  • Proven ability to diagnose, repair, and optimize mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of VFDs, parameters, codes, and related programming.
  • Comfort with industrial terminology and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to fabricate parts/components as needed.
  • Proficiency with precision tools (rules, calipers, micrometers).
  • Creative problem solver who can work through unfamiliar technical issues.
  • Team‑oriented, self‑motivated, organized, and detail‑focused.
  • Must pass the NMP maintenance exam.
  • Clear, effective communicator with operations, supervision, suppliers, and maintenance staff.
