Preconstruction Estimator
IA Mechanical is seeking a Preconstruction Estimator to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is a seasoned estimator with extensive experience pricing large-scale industrial and mechanical projects across multiple craft disciplines. This is a broad role: the estimator will price work spanning boilers, silos, and vessels, FGD/scrubber systems, conveyors, chutes, piping, fabrication, and structural and mechanical repairs, frequently within the same project. The position requires a deep understanding of the industrial sector and hands-on experience with shutdown, turnaround, and outage work. The successful candidate is a flexible, self-directed team player with strong communication and client service skills, a collaborative and analytical mindset, and the ability to perform multi-trade industrial takeoffs and build accurate, professional estimates with minimal oversight.
*This position is remote eligible for the right candidate; candidates near our Cumming, Georgia headquarters may work on a hybrid basis.

Essential Job Functions
- Create high-level conceptual budgets for proposals.
- Develop detailed preconstruction and hard-bid estimates for projects.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs across all trades and review project plans and specifications to gain a complete understanding of project scope.
- Price multi-craft mechanical scopes including boilers, silos and vessels, FGD/scrubber equipment, conveyors, chutes, piping, fabrication, recovery boilers, FRP, and structural mechanical repairs.
- Estimate shutdown, turnaround, and outage work, accounting for compressed schedules, downtime cost, and emergency response.
- Update and maintain budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Solicit new subcontractors and vendors.
- Obtain a minimum of three qualified subcontractor/vendor quotes for each scope of work.
- Assist customers and intercompany departments with technical information and pricing before and after project award.
- Utilize internal metrics and tools to produce valid estimates.
- Manage estimating workflow and pipeline to deliver complete estimate packages before bid deadlines.
- Review client-provided scopes of work and distribute bid packages to vendors and subcontractors as needed.
- Assign or propose profit margins based on current pricing guidelines.
- Prepare a Bid Summary for each estimate.
- Review bids with the sales and operations teams.
- Estimate change orders to support operations.
- Participate in pre-job and post-job meetings.
- Foster relationships with key vendors.
- Ensure profit and overhead ratios are met.
- Update, modify, and utilize internal pricing tools.
- Identify and appropriately mitigate risk.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators.

Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (preferred) in construction, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industrial experience, such as a background as a Maintenance Manager or Foreman.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial/mechanical estimating (Power, Pulp & Paper, Oil & Gas, Cement, Mining, Aggregate, Manufacturing).
- Overnight travel is estimated to be up to 50%.
- Experience with large-scale industrial and mechanical projects, including shutdown, turnaround, and outage work.
- Experience with conceptual estimating, preconstruction, and hard-bid estimating.
- Working knowledge of boilers, silos, and vessels, FGD/scrubber systems, conveyors, chutes, piping, fabrication, and structural mechanical repair.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including MSHA, OSHA, AWS, ASME, and NBBI.
- Advanced knowledge of estimating and AutoCAD tools, as well as MS Excel and Scheduling Tools.
