Summary
The Industrial Spray Painter is responsible for prepping and applying liquid coatings to metal components. This position requires someone with experience with industrial or automotive liquid coatings. A successful candidate must have general sheet metal skills and an understanding of how their work affects production flow.
Success Criteria & Measurement
Performs all work in a timely manner
Execute paint application, resulting in little or no rework
Safely use all equipment, such as tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, etc.
Work as part of the team helping in other areas as needed, such as Material Handling etc.
Work with limited supervision and in a clean and organized manner
Responsibilities
Prep units for painting by performing various tasks, including washing/rinsing, drying, removing masking, additional masking, tacking, sanding, and cleaning
Perform checks to ensure units, parts, and assemblies are properly prepared before painting
May involve material handling (i.e., moving units in paint area and in and out of spray booth; placing parts on racks for painting and drying)
Select and mix paint to desired consistency; check the shelf life of paint prior to use
Responsible for making sure painted parts are correctly marked with location, part # and any other relevant information
Clean spray room, adjust and clean spray guns, pumps, and tanks as required
Perform various operations such as hand buffing, applying spot primer, vibrating spot weld marks, scratches, excess sealer, and adhesive
Perform spray operation, holding and positioning spray gun as required for both primer and finish coats
Exercises care to apply paint to specified thickness and avoid runs, especially during the application of finish coats
Responsible for meeting appropriate quality standards
Performs other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
Must be able to complete the essential functions of this position: stand, walk, climb, crouch, stoop, kneel and, bend
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at a time on a regular basis
Operating tools, performing mechanical or skilled trade tasks
Ability to work safely in the presence of hazardous chemicals and hazardous conditions and follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
Qualifications
High School degree preferred
Minimum of 3 years of related experience as an industrial painter
Ability to read, write and follow written instructions
Ability to work weekends and overtime as needed
Computer literacy helpful
Deadline and detail-oriented
