SALARY RANGE: 37.98 - 58.87 HOURLY

General Summary:

The Infection Prevention Specialist is a Registered Nurse, Medical Technologist, or Microbiologist who assists in monitoring, evaluating, planning, implementing and documenting the hospital Infection Prevention Program. The role of the Infection Prevention Specialist includes collection and analysis of infection data; evaluation of products and procedures; development and review of policies; consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies; education efforts directed at interventions to reduce infection risks; implementation of changes mandated by regulatory and licensing agencies; application of epidemiological principles, including activities directed at improving patient outcomes; provision of high-quality services in a cost-efficient manner; and participation in research projects.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts surveillance activities in compliance with the current Infection Prevention Risk Analysis and departmental surveillance plan.

  2. Integrates the Infection Prevention program hospital-wide through active participation in committees to ensure appropriate infection prevention input is provided as needed. Active involvement in organizational and departmental policy review and revision processes to ensure appropriate infection prevention requirements and policies are met. Provide service to operational departments, physician committees, and administration by acting as a hospital wide resource for Infection Prevention issues.

  3. Active participation in development and implementation of organizational Infection Prevention priorities including direct participation in departmental planning and risk assessment activities.

  4. Coordinates and conducts Infection Prevention educational activities based on identified needs to internal and external customers.

  5. Provide expert resources to internal departmental and physician customers by keeping current with all new regulations, practice recommendations and guidelines, and research as it relates to Infection Prevention strategies.

  6. Effective communication of new and/or updated policies, accreditation / regulatory requirements, and infection prevention performance measures to assigned teams, committees, departments, and workgroups to ensure understanding and to elicit collaboration.

  7. All other duties as assigned, within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor Degree Nursing

; Or a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology or Medical Technology.

  • Credential(s):
  • Registered Nurse

; or National licensure with ASCP or NCA

  • Experience: Required: Actively employed in Nursing, Microbiology or Medical Technology within the previous 2 years, with a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience Preferred: Experience in Infection Prevention, specialty area nursing experience, management or teaching experience

Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:

  • Credential(s): Certification in Infection Prevention and Control
