Job Title: Informal Youth Programs Coordinator, Full-time

Department: Learning

Reports To:  Director, Informal Youth Programs

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $19/hour

 

SUMMARY: 

The Informal Youth Programs Coordinator ensures implementation of services within the Engagement team at Arizona Science Center to inspire, educate, and engage people of all ages through science, and to advance educational leadership, quality teaching, parent and community support, and student engagement for success in learning.  The Informal Youth Programs Coordinator will help the Camp managers and Youth Initiatives manager where needed to effectively and efficiently run day to day onsite and offsite programming. The Informal Youth Programs Coordinator will participate in other activities to further educational goals of the Science Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Camp Coordination and Reporting

  • Assist Onsite and Offsite camp managers and Youth Initiatives manager with end of season reporting using programs such as Google Doc, Excel/Google Sheets, Amilia, and Concur
  • Produce forms and keeps track of pertinent documents needed for the implementation of the programs including, but not limited to: schedules, rosters, attendance, materials distribution (shirts, water bottles), camper lanyards, survey completion
  • Assist with responding to parent phone calls and emails regarding program participant registration, scholarships and waitlist status
  • Assist with the hiring process for seasonal employees
  • Assist with material ordering, packing and organizing of materials for onsite and offsite camps, Girls in STEM, and Girl Scouts year round
  • Independently pack supplies for upcoming programs
  • Ensure guest satisfaction
  • Help drive additional program attendance

 

Content Development

  • Work with managers in the writing creation of content and themes for programs such as CAMP INNOVATION, Homeschool Workshops, etc.
  • Think creatively for new and fresh program themes/activities
  • Assist with writing 5E lesson plans for upcoming programming
  • Assist with creating and facilitating trainings
  • Prototype new concepts for activities and lessons
  • Assist with creating educational presentations to be utilized during programs

 

Program Facilitation

  • Facilitate programming enthusiastically
  • Assist with tabling events and family nights throughout the year
  • Facilitate programming at offsite locations
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as needed
  • Ability to work Tuesday-Saturday August-May, except during camp weeks, and Monday-Friday June-July

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no managerial supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two years teaching in a formal or informal environment
  • Experience maintaining participant records
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and customer service.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication and reporting
  • Skill in problem solving and decision making
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • First Aid Certified or willing to get certified upon completion of hiring process
  • CPR Certified or willing to get certified upon completion of hiring process
  • Food Handler Certification or willing to get certified upon completion of hiring process

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Camp counselor experience
  • Certified teaching experience
  • Experience with family programming
  • Experience with student behavioral needs and tools for success
  • Experience with student-directed, inquiry-based, experiential learning approaches
  • Knowledge of K-12 educational systems preferred
  • Knowledge of technology applications and integration is K-12 preferred
  • Knowledge of youth development concepts and strategies

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Fluency in a second language-Spanish or American Sign Language is preferred but not required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
