Position Summary
Serves as a beginner data analyst supporting Prince William Water's Information and Business Analytics initiatives. Under direct supervision, the intern will document procedures, develop dashboards, design data flows, and monitor data quality. They will also participate in stakeholder requirements-gathering meetings, understand customer needs, and produce reports accordingly. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Position Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions
- Assist in the development of dashboards and reports within the Power BI environment.
- Support the monitoring and enhancement of data quality.
- Participate in stakeholder requirement-gathering meetings to support dashboard development.
- Assist with the updating and maintenance of SQL database queries.
- Prepare ad-hoc queries using standard reporting tools and other available resources.
- Demonstrate familiarity with machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) models and tools, including the ability to create and maintain such models.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Essential Skills and Experience
Essential Competencies:
- Excellent professional demeanor with a willingness to work outside of comfort zones in a fast-paced, evolving technology environment.
- Ability to manage multiple work streams and learn quickly.
- Proficiency with Python and SQL.
- Ability to develop dashboards using Power BI or equivalent tools.
- Experience working with SQL or other database management systems.
- Knowledge of data warehouses, data marts, and data lakes.
- Understanding of AI solutions, SaaS, and cloud concepts.
- Familiarity with machine learning, AI, and business intelligence tools, in addition to coding experience, specifically with Python.
Minimum Education and Work Experience:
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Data Science, Math, or related field. If enrolled in an undergraduate program, must be a junior or senior upon employment.
Required Licenses/Certifications and other Special Requirements:
- Students must have and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Temporary employees are typically hired to perform special tasks for a short duration of time, to relieve periods of high work activity and for summer and winter appointments.
