Summary:
Under the supervision of a certified Speech Language Pathologist the Clinical Fellow will plan and administer speech language pathology evaluations, plan and implement appropriate treatment, document the provision of care, utilize support staff and participate in special projects as assigned. It is the responsibility of the Clinical Fellow to verify and maintain all ASHA requirements for successful completion of the CFY.
Responsibilities:
Performs an initial patient assessment and periodic reassessments using objective tests and measures to determine functional outcomes, including patient safety needs and to monitor effectiveness of treatment programs.
Plans and implements individualized patient care programs through the utilization of selected speech therapy treatments based on patient assessment data.
Documents treatment, response, and progress in patients chart.
Educates patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
Collaborates with other healthcare team members to assure coordination of patients plan of care and discharge plan.
Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of assistants, aides, and students.
Plans and conducts in-service training on speech therapy and related topics for staff, students, and community groups.
Participates in clinics, conferences, and continuing education programs designed to improve patient care and staff performance. Complete competencies as assigned.
Achieve and maintain independent competency in using FEES as a patient evaluation and treatment tool.

Education Requirements:
Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
New Graduate Privilege License (Temporary License) in Speech Language Pathology issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
Professional Experience Requirements:
Previous medical setting experience Completion of clinical affiliation at Rex preferred
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
