Information Desk Student Assistant
Position Overview: Information Desk Student Assistants staff the Information Desk in the Library. The Information Desk is an integral part of the campus and Library operation and serves as the first point of contact for individuals seeking services, resources, spaces, and general directional guidance. Student Assistants are expected to use excellent customer service skills in greeting, assisting, and directing all visitors to the Library. They are expected to exercise discretion in assisting and directing visitors in need of assistance. In addition, Information Desk Student Assistants assist with various Library-related projects as assigned, including shelving, organizing, and moving materials.
Please note: we are currently looking for students with morning (7:30am - 11:00am) and weekend afternoon availability for the summer.
Essential Duties:
Utilize customer service skills and knowledge of Library services to greet, welcome, and direct all visitors to the Library. Contribute to an overall welcoming environment for all visitors. Respond to questions in-person, by phone, and by email.
Assist visitors in the use of the Library space, including resources and services available, checking out materials, and using spaces.
Contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of the Librarys physical space, including opening and closing the Library building.
Complete administrative and other tasks as assigned by Library staff.
Assist in problem-solving for inquiries or issues that arise.
Work Experience:
Willing to pick up open shift, particularly evenings and weekends.
Hard-working with a high level of attention to detail.
Dependable and reliable in attendance and time-management skills
Ability to work independently, troubleshoot complex issues, and ask for assistance as needed
Approachable, courteous, professional, and respectful in language, demeanor, and actions
Willing to learn and understand new skills
Physical Demands: Occasional lifting and moving of boxes or similar materials may be required.
