Northrop Grumman is seeking an Information Governance Paralegal to join the Intellectual Property, Technology, & Information team within its Law Department, working from the company's Northern Virginia location.

The paralegal will report to the Director and Corporate Counsel for Intellectual Property and Information Governance and will work as a critical part of a team assisting with matters pertaining to information governance, data management, cybersecurity, privacy, and technology, including emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).

We're looking for a paralegal who can blend experience from disciplines like program management, intellectual property (IP), data management, or complementary areas (e.g., legal operations, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, corporate secretary support, etc.) to handle responsibilities that may include:

  • Assisting legal counsel in transactional matters related to technology and information law, including data management, cybersecurity, and privacy terms
  • Participating in information governance initiatives for records management, retention schedules, data classification, mobile devices, electronic messaging and archiving
  • Supporting corporate stakeholders with vendor agreements for information technology (IT) transactions
  • Assisting with government contract requirements for information protection and security
  • Using corporate collaboration tools to coordinate across multiple legal disciplines on publication reviews and technology initiatives
  • Coordinating incident response activities, participating in data mapping exercises, and supporting impact assessments that reflect the full life cycle of data management
  • Leveraging litigation, investigations or other experience to manage technology-related legal matters-summarizing background information, organizing and indexing documents and identifying relevant information for analysis by legal counsel
  • Participating in cross functional working groups on information governance matters, including working with Law Department and IT personnel on procedures for electronic data management and preservation
  • Assisting legal counsel with developing training materials and providing updates to on-going legal and regulatory developments in relevant areas
  • Supporting IP and technology licensing matters, including setting up matters in IP and legal management software and reporting periodic metrics for management
  • Reviewing and confirming outside counsel invoices
  • Preparing financial reports for requested business sectors
  • Collaborating with other company paralegals, U.S. and foreign legal counsel, and corporate stakeholders on operational and strategic matters
  • Performing administrative duties to facilitate department operations, including managing correspondence and calendars, scheduling arrangements, and filing expenses

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and at least 4 years of relevant experience (law firm or corporate legal department)
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), SharePoint (or equivalent), and document review platforms
  • Experience using complex electronic databases, such as budget analysis and billing systems (e.g., Serengeti Legal Tracker or equivalent)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to express complex ideas clearly to various audiences across a large organization and with government agencies
  • Ability to execute tasks and projects independently
  • Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective, collaborative relationships with others
  • US citizenship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or knowledge in one of the following areas: 1) information governance practices, 2) intellectual property matters (e.g., patents, trademarks, licensing and related support), or 3) cybersecurity and privacy law principles (e.g., NIST RMF, ISO 270001, GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, ISO 270001)
  • Familiarity with legal management, IP docketing, or data management software
  • Familiarity with technology contracts or IP licensing
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 4 years of experience (law firm or corporate legal department)
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CSSP) are a plus

Primary Level Salary Range: $68,600.00 - $114,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
