About This Opportunity
The City of Hillsboro is seeking an experienced Support Specialist to deliver exceptional technical support to City staff and help ensure the reliable operation of the technology systems that support essential public services.
In this role, you will provide support for desktops, mobile devices, audio-visual systems, peripherals, and a variety of business applications. Youll troubleshoot technical issues, maintain and monitor systems, support software and hardware deployments, and help maintain optimal system performance.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Receives and responds to end user requests, questions, and problems with software, hardware, telecommunications, audio/visual and peripheral equipment.
- Tests, troubleshoots, analyzes and defines problems.
- Researches, identifies and implements or communicates solutions.
- Provides notification and information related to policies and procedures.
- Coordinates or performs needed repair and/or replacement work.
- Installs, configures, maintains, and orients users on personal computers, software, peripheral devices, audio/visual equipment, and/or network services.
- Creates profiles and configures settings; tests connectivity; implements repairs and upgrades; and/or modifies equipment.
- Evaluates software and hardware requirements and purchases or recommends purchases.
- Works with vendors and manufacturers in support of purchases, upgrades and equipment repair.
- Identifies surplus inventory; assists with maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Prepares and maintains technical documentation, user support reference sheets, work schedules, workflow procedures and various activity reporting.
- Manage records and information in any format, in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations and City policy, guidance and records retention schedule.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities
- Help desk support in person and remote.
- Account administration in active directory.
- Creating documentation for applications and system processes.
- Creating computer images & deploying images with Windows Deployment Services.
- Provide ongoing maintenance and future planning needs of the desktop environment.
- Monitor the performance of the Citys desktop and make suggestions for improving efficiency.
- Test and validate applications and security patches for systems.
- Evaluate new technology and make recommendations to management.
- Valid Driver's License and safe driving record.
- Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation.
- Must be LEDS and CJIS Certified within 90 days of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications or a closely related field and 4 years experience related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties.

Bilingual Incentive Pay
Preference may be given to candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish. Employees who demonstrate proficiency in Spanish, or in any language spoken by more than ten percent (10%) of City residents as identified by the most recent U.S. Census, may be eligible for a bilingual pay premium. To qualify, employees must successfully pass a City-administered fluency assessment. Eligible employees will receive a monthly premium equal to three percent (3%) of their regular base pay.
