Secure the Systems That Matter: Join us as an Information Systems Security Engineer!

At Adaptic, our ISSEs don't just check compliance—they design, engineer, and strengthen the security of mission-critical systems. Supporting the DoD and Intelligence Community, you'll help ensure systems are resilient, compliant, and built to withstand evolving threats.

Whether you're early in your career or leading security engineering efforts, we're looking for Information Systems Security Engineers at all levels who understand how to balance security, performance, and mission needs.

Your Impact

You'll work across the system lifecycle—design, assessment, authorization, and sustainment—ensuring security is built in from the ground up. Day-to-day, that can look like:

  • Performing and reviewing security assessments of complex systems and environments
  • Designing and integrating secure system, network, and enclave architectures
  • Applying RMF and other risk frameworks to support system authorization and compliance
  • Developing and maintaining security documentation (e.g., SSPs, RMF artifacts, ATO packages)
  • Identifying vulnerabilities and recommending mitigation strategies
  • Supporting security planning, risk analysis, and system hardening efforts
  • Ensuring compliance with NIST, NSA, and DoD security policies and standards
  • Collaborating with system engineers, network engineers, and program teams to implement secure solutions
  • Supporting continuous monitoring and ongoing system security improvements
  • Advising stakeholders on security requirements, trade-offs, and best practices

Qualifications

  • All positions require an active TS/SCI with polygraph
  • Experience in information systems security engineering, cybersecurity, or related roles
  • Strong understanding of RMF and security frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-37, 800-53)
  • Experience developing or supporting security documentation and authorization processes
  • Familiarity with system hardening, vulnerability management, and compliance tools
  • Ability to communicate security concepts clearly across technical and non-technical teams
  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Nice to Have

  • DoD 8570/8140 compliance (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, CAP, or similar certifications)
  • Experience with tools such as Nessus, STIG Viewer, SCAP Compliance Checker, or Xacta
  • Experience supporting ATO processes or continuous monitoring programs
  • Familiarity with system architecture, networking, or cloud environments
  • Experience supporting mission or operational environments within the IC/DoD
