IT Network Engineer

The mission of the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences is the development of professional health care practitioners through innovation, individualized, and quality classroom, clinical, and distance education.

The IT Network Engineer is responsible for the administration and continuous improvement of the University's network infrastructure across multiple physical campuses and cloud environments. This role ensures the availability and security of network systems, including on-premises and cloud-based resources. The position requires strong expertise in network infrastructure design and operations, security best practices, and troubleshooting complex network and security issues in a multi-site, hybrid environment.

This position follows a hybrid work schedule requiring a minimum of 3 days on campus.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Implement and manage enterprise network infrastructure across multiple campuses, including core and edge switching, routing, firewalls, wireless networks, and VPNs.
  • Configure and support routing and switching technologies, including VLANs, routing protocols, and high availability network configurations.
  • Monitor and optimize network performance, availability, and capacity across all locations, and proactively resolve issues.
  • Manage core network services such as DNS, DHCP, IP address management, and Network Time Protocol to ensure reliable network operations.
  • Maintain and enforce network and infrastructure security policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and audit readiness.
  • Configure and maintain firewall platforms.
  • Maintain security policies, NAT configurations, and VPN access controls, including implementation and support of site-to-site VPN connections.
  • Implement and maintain redundancy, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies for network and core infrastructure systems.
  • Implement and secure cloud connectivity during the hybrid-to-cloud transition, including network segmentation, secure access controls, and integration with on-premises systems.
  • Manage and support networking components within Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Partner with IT leadership, application owners, vendors, and stakeholders to support the development of secure network and infrastructure architecture requirements aligned with business and academic needs.
  • Work with external vendors, contractors, and IT team members to coordinate low voltage installation and network configuration for new classrooms, meeting rooms, and event spaces.
  • Create and maintain documentation of network architecture, configurations, and security controls.

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and guidance to IT team members or end-users as needed.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

Education and/or Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or at least 5 years of work experience in relevant field.
  • Proven experience in network administration and security, with a focus on both areas.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, routing, switching, and firewall management.
  • Experience with network security tools and technologies, such as IDS/IPS, SIEM, and endpoint protection.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based networking and security solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with VmWare ESXI 8.0
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of Microsoft infrastructure products including Active Directory Services; DHCP; and DNS
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification is a plus.
  • CompTIA Network+ certification is a plus.
  • CCNA certification or above.

Work environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions, as necessary.
