    The Department of Information Technology (DIT) is seeking to fill a vacant Information Technology (IT) Specialist I position in Honolulu. Under the supervision of a Data Processing Program Manager or Senior Systems Analyst, this position provides greater IT support for a large agency or cluster of smaller agencies.

    What You Will Do

    • Gather and analyze general information concerning requirements contained in system application plans; plan and conduct system surveys of departmental functions to determine the feasibility of applying automation methodologies.
    • Conduct studies to obtain factual, historical, and statistical data relating to work flow, work measurement, time distribution, organizational and functional relationships and other types of data needed by an agency to carry out its functions.
    • Initiate formal documentations to effect changes in systems, network, cabling, electrical, security, and equipment configuration.
    • Provide analysis and programming support; conduct tests and end-user training.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) is also looking to fill a vacant IT Specialist I position in Honolulu. Under the supervision of a Senior Systems Analyst, this position assists with the analysis, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and support of BWS enterprise systems.

    What You Will Do

    • Troubleshoot and resolve first level issues/defects and provide support services to users.
    • Analyze report requirements, develop database query scripts, test data for test scripts, and process data to produce comprehensive and accurate results.
    • Document and update business process and procedures and prepare training materials.
    • Assist with developing software modules, extensions, and enhancements; develop end-user documentation and materials.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Career Progression

    • An IT Specialist I may progress upward to the IT Specialist III level.
    • Opportunity to progress up the career ladder and/or qualify for other higher-level positions will depend on satisfactory work experience and demonstration of applicable knowledge and skills.
    • Opportunity to compete for promotion to supervisory levels is also available.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

    Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in computer science, public or business administration, accounting, mathematics or a related field.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

    One (1) year of experience in the analysis of operating practices, methods and procedures, some of which shall have involved the conduct of feasibility studies and the analysis and design of information technology systems for the processing of data.

    Applicable Skills Needed
