Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Manager I in the Technology Operations & Support Unit, the Information Technology Supervisor II takes on leadership responsibilities relating to the overall planning, organizing, and staff supervision associated with the Client Services Support Unit (CSSU). The incumbent demonstrates the technical expertise and leadership skills required to effectively manage the staff and workload applicable to the Technical Support Service Desk, Desktop/Laptop Computer Field Support services, Information Technology Assets, and Software. The incumbent sets desktop and mobile computing standards and guidelines, oversees the Desktop and Field Support procurement process and maintains hardware and software inventories for the entire department. The incumbent also plans, coordinates, and leads technology projects and initiatives related to client services, including technology deployments, hardware and software lifecycle initiatives, service improvements, system implementations, and department-wide technology modernization efforts. The position's primary area of focus is within the Client Services domain.

Personal Leave Program 2025

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range(s) shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.

Working Conditions

HYBRID

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. Currently, the hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of two days per week in the office.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Experience supervising or leading staff in an IT service desk environment. Experience using IT service management tools to effectively manage client workstations and end-user service requests. Experience developing policies, procedures, and guidelines to generate a more efficient IT service desk. Experience understanding the use of key metrics to drive service improvement within the organization. Experience managing multiple high priority initiatives in a fast paced highly technical environment, solving problems and making decisions on a daily basis relative to IT service desk responsibilities. Knowledge of current desktop, laptop, and mobile computing products, including their capabilities, and advantages/disadvantages. Experience deploying and supporting desktop, laptop, and mobile computing products in a Microsoft-based environment.
