Position Description:

The Maintenance Technician II – Injection Molding at Applied Medical plays a vital role in maintaining and repairing specialized manufacturing equipment used in the production of high-quality medical devices. This position directly supports operational efficiency and product integrity by performing preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve production and quality objectives.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience working with injection molding machines, metal injection molding machines, extrusion equipment, rubber mills, sintering ovens, blown film machines, or within medical device manufacturing environments. This role is essential to Applied Medical’s mission of driving innovation and delivering exceptional products that improve patient outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on equipment to support efficient production operations.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems using schematics, manuals, and technical documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with production teams, engineers, and leadership to ensure consistent product quality and streamlined workflows.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, organized work environment in alignment with Applied Medical’s safety standards and manufacturing protocols.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, equipment status, and service records in accordance with good documentation practices.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new team members on equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Foster a team-oriented culture focused on achieving and exceeding production and quality objectives.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime through proactive maintenance and timely repairs
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to support production and quality objectives
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow established maintenance protocols
  • Identify and resolve equipment issues quickly to support continuous manufacturing operations
  • Contribute to a safe and organized work environment by adhering to safety and quality standards
  • Support team development by training new members and sharing technical expertise
Position Requirements:
  • Completion of high school education or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of experience repairing injection molding, extrusion, or rubber molding equipment
  • Ability to read mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical schematics
  • Proficiency in using basic hand tools and climbing ladders up to fifteen feet
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty pounds and work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail in maintenance tasks
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
  • Willingness to perform duties outside of the standard position description
  • Demonstrated understanding of team concepts and collaboration
  • Motivated, self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving and team collaboration
  • Reliable team member with a strong drive to succeed and contribute to team goals
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with repairing Arburg, Toshiba, Sumitomo, Cincinnati, Krauss Maffei, Maplan injection molding machines, robots, LIM, mills, rubber presses, and extrusion equipment
  • Experience with heat treat ovens, hydrogen generators, and nitrogen generators
  • Background in medical device manufacturing or regulated production environments
  • Electromechanical certification or degree
