A Day in Your 12-Hour Shift

You begin by reviewing the handoff from the previous shift, confirming machine performance and conditions. You bring equipment online, complete start-ups and any required changeovers, and make routine adjustments to hold steady output and quality. Throughout the day you perform quality checks, document process changes, respond quickly to product or process concerns, and keep materials stocked and your area organized. You wear required PPE, follow all plant procedures, and report issues immediately. When special projects, shutdowns, or overtime arise, you pitch in to keep the plant on track.

Core Responsibilities

Production and Equipment Operation

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust assigned machinery to achieve production targets and quality standards
  • Execute machine changeovers, line start-ups, and basic troubleshooting
  • Review equipment performance and operating conditions with the previous shift
  • Keep equipment running efficiently to consistently produce quality parts
  • Perform routine adjustments and preventative maintenance activities
  • Report equipment concerns, mechanical issues, or maintenance needs promptly

Quality Assurance

  • Perform inspections and checks to confirm products meet specifications
  • Accurately document machine adjustments, process changes, and quality issues
  • Identify defects and production concerns and address them quickly
  • Follow all quality procedures and work instructions

Material Handling and Housekeeping

  • Monitor and maintain appropriate raw material levels
  • Keep equipment and work areas clean, orderly, and free of debris
  • Adhere to housekeeping standards and plant cleanliness requirements

Safety

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Maintain a safe work environment and immediately report safety concerns
  • Participate in safety initiatives and training

Additional Responsibilities

  • Follow plant job specifications and task requirements
  • Support overtime, plant shutdowns, and special projects as needed
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Food Safety and Quality

  • Monitor and verify that products meet food safety and quality requirements
  • Follow all company food safety, GMP, and quality assurance procedures
  • Restore product contact surfaces to sanitary conditions after maintenance or production activities
  • Accurately complete all required food safety and quality documentation
  • Immediately report any food safety, quality, or process concerns to supervision

Responsible for food safety, food quality, and site safety.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • 1–2 years of manufacturing, machine operation, or production experience (preferred)
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting ability
  • Team player who can also work independently
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Ability to follow written instructions, procedures, and production specifications

Preferred

  • Experience in plastics manufacturing
  • Background in the packaging industry
  • Hands-on experience with machine set-ups and changeovers
  • Success in a fast-paced production environment

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Stand and walk on concrete for extended periods
  • Regular bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling
  • Frequent use of hands for tools, equipment, and materials
  • Ability to work a 12-hour shift schedule
  • Close vision for inspections and quality checks

Work Environment

  • Active manufacturing floor with production machinery and moving equipment
  • Moderate to high noise (hearing protection required)
  • Typical plant temperature variations
  • Exposure to plastics manufacturing processes
