Join a collaborative, multifaceted team providing exceptional newborn care within a growing obstetrics program. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be trained to support all aspects of nursery services, including inpatient newborn care and home call responsibilities.

This part-time position is a 0.4 FTE equivalent, consisting of four (4) 10-hour shifts per two-week pay period.

Position Responsibilities

Under the collaboration agreement filed with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing, the APP will work in partnership with the physician care team to:

  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services for newborn and critically ill patients.
  • Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, conduct daily rounds, and document patient care.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests and initiate treatment plans.
  • Communicate effectively with attending physicians, interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
  • Perform therapeutic and advanced procedures within the approved Delineation of Privileges, including circumcisions.
  • Educate and counsel parents and caregivers on newborn health and related concerns.

The APP will:

  • Practice in accordance with Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing standards and procedural protocols.
  • Meet all departmental and organizational deadlines, evaluations, compliance requirements, and project expectations.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives and contribute to a High Reliability Organization focused on patient safety, professionalism, mutual respect, and zero harm.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and open communication across departments and care teams.
  • Identify and communicate potential risks related to processes, procedures, devices, or patient care.
  • Consistently implement organizational policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Leadership & Professional Development

  • Participate in APP Council meetings, service line meetings, and organizational events.
  • Engage in leadership opportunities, including committee participation, mentorship, education, and training initiatives.
  • Participate in ongoing educational and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain required certifications and clinical competencies.
  • Complete a minimum of 50 hours of Category I CME every two years.
  • Maintain procedural complication rates below the national average.

Minimum Qualifications

Physician Assistants (PA)

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • NCCPA certification required.
  • Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians required.

Nurse Practitioners (NP)

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Prior RN experience required.
  • Completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program required.
  • Active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of nursery or pediatric experience preferred.
  • NRP certification preferred.

Credentialing through the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office and current BLS certification are required.
