The Inpatient Pharmacy Manager provides operational and clinical leadership for inpatient pharmacy services within a rural acute care hospital environment. This role oversees medication distribution systems, sterile compounding, regulatory compliance, clinical pharmacy services, medication safety initiatives, and Epic Willow inpatient workflows.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on pharmacy leader with strong hospital pharmacy operations expertise, clinical judgment, leadership capabilities, and Epic Willow experience. This role requires balancing operational excellence with patient safety, staff development, and evidence-based clinical care.
Key Responsibilities Pharmacy Operations & Distribution Oversee daily inpatient pharmacy operations including: Medication distribution Sterile compounding Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) Controlled substances management Inventory oversight Ensure compliance with: USP <797>/<800> Joint Commission standards State and federal regulations Optimize medication distribution systems and Epic–Client integration workflows Manage purchasing, medication shortages, waste reduction, and budget stewardship Develop and maintain pharmacy SOPs and operational best practices Lead pharmacy operational quality improvement initiatives Clinical Pharmacy Services Support evidence-based inpatient clinical pharmacy services Lead medication safety and adverse drug event review initiatives Support formulary management and Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee activities Provide clinical pharmacist support during staffing shortages or high-acuity periods Promote safe and effective medication utilization practices Epic Willow Leadership Serve as pharmacy lead for Epic Willow Inpatient workflows Manage: Medication records Order routing Dispense workflows Inventory functionality Reporting processes Lead clinical decision support (CDS), order set optimization, and pharmacist documentation workflows Collaborate with IT and clinical stakeholders on Epic upgrades and optimization projects Staff Leadership & Education Supervise pharmacists and pharmacy technicians Oversee hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, competency validation, and performance management Lead staff education on: Medication safety Operational workflows Clinical protocols Epic functionality Support technician cross-training and pharmacist professional development Provide medication-related education to nursing and interdisciplinary teams Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with: Nursing Providers Supply Chain IT Quality teams Hospital leadership Serve as primary pharmacy contact for inpatient medication-use processes Participate in hospital committees and interdisciplinary initiatives Must-Have Qualifications PharmD required Active Colorado Pharmacist License in good standing Hospital pharmacy experience required Strong inpatient pharmacy operational leadership experience Experience supervising pharmacy technicians and pharmacists Strong understanding of: Medication distribution systems Sterile compounding Medication safety Regulatory compliance Clinical pharmacy operations BLS Certification (AHA) ACLS Certification (AHA) Strong communication, teaching, and leadership skills Preferred Qualifications Rural hospital pharmacy experience strongly preferred Epic Willow Inpatient experience strongly preferred Experience leading operational and clinical pharmacy initiatives Experience supporting P&T Committees and medication utilization evaluations Core Skills Inpatient Pharmacy Operations Clinical Pharmacy Services Epic Willow Inpatient Medication Safety Sterile Compounding Automated Dispensing Cabinets (Client) USP 797 / USP 800 Compliance Pharmacy Leadership Inventory & Drug Purchasing Formulary Management Clinical Decision Support Staff Education & Development Show more Numbers & Facts Location Glenwood Springs, CO
